 How can we relate what we’ve learned today to the 7
sacred teachings?
o The buffalo, represents respect, treat your body
with respect and it will look after itself, treat it
with poison and it will destroy itself.
o The earth is a living thing, just like our bodies. It’s
covered in plants and animals, and has rivers,
lakes, and oceans that provide plants and animals
with water required to live. If we treat the earth
with respect and don’t pollute it, it will take care
of itself. If we treat it with poison, like garbage,
chemicals, air pollution, it will be destroyed. It’s
important that we respect the earth for our own
well-being and the next generation’s too.
o The beaver, represents wisdom. Ask if anyone can
take a guess at wisdom vs knowledge.
o Wisdom is gained experience
o The beaver says “When one pollutes the water,
one does not break a human law, but the law of
nature, which states that to poison the water, is to
destroy oneself.”
o This is wisdom because people have learned this
lesson from experience. If the water is polluted,
nature is being poisoned. Not only are the plants
and animals that rely on that water being
damaged, but we are too because we need that
water. When we pollute the water, we are
destroying ourselves.
o What can the seven sacred teachings teach us
about caring for our environment? We must
respect our environment and be wise enough to
know what’ll happen if we disrespect it.
