III.PROCEDURES
1.OPENING PRAYER So, before we start let`s pray first. Please lead the prayer Miss Calamaya

Student: okay ma`am. So let us bow down our heads and feel the presence of the Lord.
In the name of the Father, of the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Students: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,And forgive us
our trespasses, As we forgive those Who trespass against us, And lead us not into
temptations, But deliver us from evil. Amen
2.GREETINGS Okay Class Good morning!

Students: Good morning ma`am!

3.CHECKING ATTENDANCE Kindly check the attendance Ms. Secretary ,just write it in a one whole sheet of paper and
give it to me later.
Student: Okay ma`am
MOTIVATION I have here four pictures that best describe a word or a group of word.

ACTIVITY Our topic for today is about geo thermal power plants. At the end of our discussion we
are going to explain how do heat energy transfer to electrical energy.
Students will be going to post smiley face if the statement is true and sad face if the
statement is false.
1. Geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.
2. The heat from earth’s core continuously flows outward.
3. Geothermal energy is a non-renewable energy.
4. Geothermal energy is environmentally friendly.
5. Resources of geothermal energy range from shallow ground to hot water.

DETAILED LESSON PLAN

(Geothermal Power Plant)

According to your prior knowledge, what is geo thermal energy?

Students: Geo means “Earth” and thermal means “heat”. Geothermal energy is an energy
coming from the Earth.

If you were going to dig big hole straight down into the earth, you would notice the
temperature is getting warmer the deeper you go. That’s because the inside of the Earth
is full of heat. This heat is called geo thermal energy.

Have you see volcanoes and geysers in pictures or actual?

Students: Yes

If so, then you’ve seen geothermal energy in action!

Are you aware that here in Leyte, we have our own geo thermal power plant? (See
Contextualization at the back part)

Students: Yes, at Tongonan and Malitbog, Leyte.

According to this photo and your prior knowledge, what are the major type of energy
present in geothermal power plant?

Student: Heat energy and Electrical energy

How will you define geothermal power plant?

Students: Geo means “earth” and thermal means “heat”. Geothermal power plant
converts the heat from the earth to electrical energy.

Geothermal power plant is illustrated in this picture.

DETAILED LESSON PLAN

(Geothermal Power Plant)

1. Hot water pumped from deep underground through a well under high pressure.
2. When the water reach that surface, the pressure dropped, which causes the
water turn into steam.
3. The steam spins a turbine, which in connected to a generator that produce
electricity.
4. The steam cools off and condenses back to water.
5. The cooled water is pumped back into earth to begin the process again.

ABSRACTION Discussion
Explain the flow of geothermal power plant on how it generates electricity from heat
energy. (Use clip chart)
Guide Questions:
1. Where does the energy of geothermal power plant came from?
2. Where do the hot water underground travels?
3. What causes the turbine to spin?
4. What produces electricity?
5. Where do condensed water flow after it was cooled off?
Students:
1. It came from the earth.
2. It travels from a pipe or production wells.
3. The steam from the earth causes the turbine to spin.
4. The generator produces electricity.
5. The condensed water will flow to the injection wells.

APPLICATION For more information and explicit discussion on how Geothermal power plant generates
electric energy, let’s watch a short video clip about geothermal power plant.
1. How does heat energy transform into electric energy?
2. Why is that condensed water must be injected back to the earth’s surface?
