Case Scenario:

Precy, 18 years old, came from a broken family and was raised by her lola
after her mother left them for another man, and her father, whom she considered
her best friend died a few months after. Since she was longing for the love and
attention of a father when he met Carlos, a 35 years old carpenter, in the morning,
she accepted his proposal to live with him. Because of the nature of her husband's
work, she learned to use Maryjane (Marijuana) and drink alcohol, every time they
didn't have money his husband hit her. It’s been a year and Precy cannot tolerate
it. She went to the police and filed a case. Carlos was arrested and Precy is very
happy to be free at last.

Guide Questions:

1. Although Precy wants to start her life again, how can the government help
her and give her a chance to study or work for a living given the fact of social
sigma knowing she was a drug addict in their place before?

• Precy may seek help from the government by inquiring about the drug and
alcohol rehabilitation centers in her area. The government might be able to help
since they are offering counseling and different programs wherein there are
different treatment modalities. If Precy will be successful after all the
treatments, the government will also be able to give her a job.

• Huge number of women like Precy suffer from domestic violence and
adaptation of improper lifestyle and with that, there’s a big possibility that she
will experience post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and other
mental conditions. The government can do its part by assisting her to fight for
her rights, like providing legal aid services to ensure that she will understand
how divorce law, family court, and restraining order works. Upon her being
guided with the help of the government, she can now slowly start to live another
chance in her life and be able to show improvements in her well-being. Not
because she used to be a drug addict doesn’t mean she will not be able to cope
up with new opportunities that the government will provide for her to start living
a new dimension of her life.

• Precy's development and progress as a person who has experienced traumatic

situations can be aided by the government. LGUs are establishing and
operationalizing it through community-based treatment and rehabilitation
approaches. It entails assessing and evaluating patients like Precy, as well as
seminars with detoxification programs and follow-up monitoring. There are also
government-sponsored groups that have provided their assistance and
services in the rehabilitation of drug users and addicts in the community. LGUs
may use these organizations to assist clients like Precy in making a new start
and establishing a good record that would enable her to get stable employment
to support her family.
• LGU may also offer educational health programs regarding this case so that
many people will be more aware of how rehabilitation centers give assistance
to those who used drugs. It will be an eye-opener since anyone can change for
the better even if they experienced a dreadful past.

• LGU and other organizations offer to help people like Precy. There are so many
ways to get or seek help to change their lives. Precy can also get herself tested
and clean herself, to prove to anyone that she’s clean and overcoming her drug
addiction.

2. If she will apply to you as a janitress in your establishment will you give
Precy a chance? If yes, why? If not, why not?

• As the owner of the business establishment, accepting Precy for work would
be a YES, as long as she presents an authorized document from a
rehabilitation center that she is well-grounded to present for a week-long
schedule of work. Every person can always be given a chance to regain
wellness stability not only for their health but for their environmental wellness
as well. But we must also keep in mind to put up our own and business morale
or principles as we face situations like this.

• The past of Precy is not a requirement in order to attain the occupation and
have a chance to start a new life. As long as she has fully recovered from her
past and has quit using Marijuana through the process of rehabilitation, then
she will be accepted in a certain job. We all have the chance to live our life at
our greatest.

• If Percy was able to get the help she needed for her addiction and deemed
successful after the treatment, she should be given the chance to take the job
as a janitress. As long as she can show her determination to work and handle
the tasks as a janitress, she can take the job. She is trying to recover and there
should be no discrimination against people like her who are trying to get their
life back on track.

• According to Paul (2018), “The past does not define who you are”. If Percy was
able to rebuild herself again, giving her a chance would be able to make her
life change. From that, it would make her life better than it was in the past. Let
Percy rebuild the life she lost and give her a chance to make herself change
for the better.

• Her circumstances in the past cannot be altered, but her future may. Our
missteps, like our mistakes in the past, do not determine who we are. We
enable them to do so because we believe it is the only way things should be.
We allow others to see us for our faults and mistakes in the past when they
should see us for who we are now. Let's face it: our faults and our history are
all tests for who we are becoming. You act without thinking or considering the
consequences of your actions. We believe that what we are doing is okay at
the time, that it is correct, and that it will make us happy. You are shaped by
your history, but you are not to linger on it.
