Machine Lab-Axial Fan

Tutorial-3
1. A Kirloskar Cummins 400 mm 2-stage axial fan driven by a torque reaction variable
speed DC motor is part of an experimental set up having a discharge tube of 400 mm
diameter with pitot tube , manometer and tachometer. Following readings are obtained
from the experiment:-
 Barometric pressure 760 mm of Hg
 Ambient temperature 200C
 Motor speed, N 2700 rpm
 Balance reading, F 14 N
 Torque arm length, l 0.4 m
 Static pressure head, hu (six readings) 29, 29.5, 29, 30, 31, 31 mm of water
 Dynamic pressure head ( --do--- ) 12, 12.5, 12, 13, 14, 14 mm of water.
Calculate:
i. Static pressure, ps
ii. Dynamic pressure, pu,
iii. Total/stagnation pressure, pt
iv. Total air power, Wair
