Kap. Dennis M. Salandanan

Barangay Captain
Barangay Malaban, Biñan City, Laguna

Dear Mr./Mrs. Salandanan:

Blessed day!

As a major requirement for the course, Filipino Christian Living 8 – The Perpetualite: A Helper of
God, we, the fourth year Education students of University of Perpetual Help System – Laguna, are required
to conduct a community outreach program that aims to respond effectively to the multiple needs of the
people of the community through social services towards integral human development. With the theme
“December to Remember: Reactivating the Character and Values of Filipino Children”, the program
intends to teach the younger generation the value of Christian living and its importance in individual
community engagement. In line with this, we seek your approval for us to use the Barangay Hall as a venue
of the said event. The event will be from 1:00 pm onwards, on December 8, 2022.
In this regard, the group would like to ask permission from your good office to please allow the
usage of resources and amenities which are necessary for the said event such as [list of equipment that may
be used for the event]. Please notify us of any breakdown of the costs involved so that we may prepare in
advance. If possible, please inform us as well of the terms and conditions that govern the use of the premises.
In order, any query arises, feel free to contact the overall chairperson, Wowie Mapakit, at
09610354935.
Your favorable response regarding this request will be highly appreciated by the whole group.
Thank you and God bless.

Respectfully yours,

Wowie B. Mapakit Approved:

I. Narrative of the outreach program

"December to Remember: Reactivating the Character and Values of

Filipino Children”
One of the Final requirements in Filipino Christian Living 800 is the Community outreach

program, and this celebration has always been one of the most anticipated activities that

Perpetualite looks forward to and participates in regularly. It has embarked different apprehensions

for us to not just enjoy the privilege of being under an institution directed to acquaint ourselves

with the rights and responsibilities we are entitled to, but also give us the actual experience to have

these facts disseminated.Prior to this, the group had met virtually to brainstorm ideas on what

theme will the emphasis of the project be. As per one of the major objectives of the project,

Character Building should be given emphasis and should teach children to whom it was really for,

hence, the group decided to target participants in the bracket of children’s age. And as OHYM-

Tutorial Kids has been part of the partner organization for this program and has helped Pre-service

teachers practice their teaching skills and apply their own learnings on subject matters, we decided

to have this very child be the participant in this activity.

One of the key principles to consider in the planning process is the source of funds. As a

student, we were also baffled but sought an efficient way to raise funds needed for the expenses

incurred upon putting the project into action. The group then contributes 200 pesos per head. These

steps helped us accumulate PHP 2,600.00, enough to fund the whole project. On finding a well-

ordered venue that is convenient, conducive, and can accommodate the prepared activities and the

number of target participants, Mr. Wowie Mapakit coordinated with the Barangay Officials where

the participants reside and requested to lend us space in the Barangay Hall spacious enough to

accommodate the program properly. Mr. Wowie Mapakit started to buy the ingredients and the

materials that are needed for the said event. Around 7 am he finished buying the remaining

ingredients. Mr. Romiel Hibek went to Mr. Wowie Mapakit’s house to help him prepare the foods

and Ms.Joselle Oliva arrived at his house to help in the preparation of the foods. Also Ms. Joe

Lleno, Mr. Ian Balando, Ms. Jeneth Lozano and Ms. Justine Ambulo arrived to help us in packing

the food that was cooked by Mr. Mapakit. We brought prizes and candy, and we planned games

for everyone to enjoy. We also had snacks prepared for them. Aside from that, we gave them a

storybook compiled by our members. We collaborate to ensure the activity's success. With the help

of them we finished packing and went to the venue around 12 noon to meet the other members

who were waiting.

December 8, 2022, the day of the project execution, the members arrived at the venue hall

hours before the call time to condition the place and prepare the rest of the paper stuff and

registration. We entered the room on the third level of the venue, the Barangay Hall of Malaban, to

get ready for our community outreach event. Everyone is occupied with accomplishing their

allocated tasks and the tasks required for our community outreach. When the kids arrived, Ms.

Jeneth Anne Lozano and Ms. Mira Flor Mejica gave them name tags while Mr. Jayson Nequinto

recorded the kids' names and ages to make sure they were present. While they are verifying

attendance, they converse with the kids, finding out things like what their goals are, who their

favorite singer is, and what their favorite cartoon character is.

The activity went on with a clean introduction and the program began with a prayer, which

asked for God's presence in the event. After the short introduction about the program or event, Mr.

Romiel Hibek and Ms. Kristena Caballero share the bible verse of the day which is "Children obey

your parents in the Lord for this is right '' from the book of Ephesians 6:1. So we teach this verse

with matching action in order to easily memorize the verse. The meaning of the verse is to give

instructions for children to obey their parents, and for parents to be careful in how they raise their

children. Children who learn respect for proper authority will have a better chance at success in

life and obedience to parents is the morally right way to behave. In short, building the children-

parents relationship is a must in order to avoid rebellious children just like in the modern days it is

common. We also prepared song and dance energizers to aid the listeners from being distracted.

The game was resumed after the storytelling led by Ms. Joelinda Lleno, as was planned and the

groups got to enjoy the last step of their collaboration activities where they did not only got a hand

of important takes from said objective, but also got to exercise their interpersonal skills, strategic

play, and sportsmanship. The activity ended triumphantly as children heard their names being

called to receive the awards from the game. Participants and facilitators both went home joyful for

the tokens that their participation, efforts, and dedication have gotten from the sponsors of simple

appreciation gifts.

Ms. Larra Maranan and Ms. Mira Flor Mejica was assigned to document the event. Every

activity that was done throughout the event was documented with photos and videos. From

recording of attendance to sharing of words of God or Bible Verse, story-telling, games, food

distribution, gift giving and awarding of certificates. While others were busy assisting the kids and

preparing materials needed for the event, Ms. Maranan and Ms. Mejica was also busy taking

pictures. They took pictures while the kids were writing their names in the attendance sheet, also

they took pictures of the other members while they were busy preparing the food, gifts, materials

needed in the games, etc.

This program seeks to assist Filipino children in reactivating their character and values.

We organized a simple yet appreciative activity for the children as a group in order to make them

happy and inspire their adorable grin. This is intended to guide and inspire them to continue in life.

We want kids to believe that even if they cannot see God, they can still sense his love, spirit, and

guidance. They were able to communicate, participate, collaborate, and work as a team as a result

of this activity or game. Eventually, the program was a success, and we saw their pleasant smiles.

There, we all went to divide the designated task. Some of us were tasked with taking photos for

the documentation, while others were tasked with parlor games and the feeding program. At every

parlor game, every child actively participated in whatever the emcee instructed them to do. They

were really energetic and pleasant

In conclusion, the "December to Remember: Reactivating the Character and Values of

Filipino Children", successfully achieved its objectives. At the end of the project, we have also

manifested empowered youth with confidence and leadership skills fundamental to their social

growth. Of course, practicality and resourcefulness amidst the rate of inflation have been evident

as the project also provided a learning experience which both children and youth can

simultaneously benefit from. Apart from tangible things from the activities, the whole project

apportioned an understanding of participating in activities that will help the young generation have

a fraction of their own better future.

II. Reflections
I've learnt throughout my life that giving is the path to genuine happiness. Assisting others

along the path compels you to assess your own identity. Being able to help is a privilege for us

students because it teaches us how to care about those in need, how to grasp the spirit of

compassion, and how to share what we have in order to eradicate the selfishness that is buried deep

within us.

- Ambulo, Justine Mae

It is a very gratifying experience to be able to run a program that provides assistance to the

local community. From the preparation to the actual carrying out, it was the kind of memory that

I will consider important for the rest of my life. The children aged eight to twelve years old were

the target audience for the program that we ran in Brgy. Malgban. Having the opportunity to take

in their bright smiles is gratifying for me. When we saw how appreciative the children were, we

realized that all of the hard preparation work that we had put into the outreach program had been

worthwhile.

We were all having a nice time and enjoying each activity that we planned for the entire

period of the program, from the very beginning to the very end. Due to the fact that I am aware of

the significance of engaging in an activity of this kind, I would like to keep having the opportunity

to participate in this event. It is better to give what you have to others than wait to receive

something yourself. It is of greater significance also that the activity took place on the 8th of

December, which is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This fact alone elevates the

importance of the event.

Caballero, Maria Kristena E.

It is an honor that we are given the chance to donate our time and effort throughout our

time as students to improve our community and the lives of those around us. We can

demonstrate how we may better the lives of others and comprehend the importance of charity via

our community outreach program, "December to Remember: Reactivating the Character and

Values of Filipino Children."

For me, this was a tremendously worthwhile experience. I discovered that many children

still have a yearning to increase their knowledge and experience new things. They still need

encouragement to assist them in gaining more self-assurance, deepen their comprehension, and

carry-on walking in our footsteps. Those kids could explore their ideas further and learn how to

put them into practice. We need to be kind, intelligent elders who can guide and encourage them.

I could see the joy and happiness of those kids who waited for us. They were showing us that they

really desire to learn. The kids seemed really engaged throughout the session.

Despite certain challenges, the program as a whole has been a success and a joy. The ability

to serve the community and put ourselves to various tasks in order to do so are both rewarding

experiences. Our program-related memories and experiences were remarkable and unforgettable,

making them worth keeping in remembrance. The curriculum exposes us to the actual world, which

has its difficulties and presents us with difficulties. However, the difficulties we have faced have

made us stronger and more resilient, enabling us to face and overcome even greater difficulties in

the future. Furthermore, it has taught us a lot and helped us learn more.

Encina, Paul Ryan A.

The monumental effort exerted by a group of individuals to formulate and implement a

community outreach program is truly groundbreaking as it is a way to share their blessings to

others that are less fortunate than them and become an instrument of God to help other people

alleviate the feeling of the major drawbacks they experience in their daily lives. Once this program

was approved and put into action, I immediately knew that it would serve a greater cause and could

fulfill a greater purpose in one’s life. Being helpful to others, or the act of beneficence, connotes

gestures or personal qualities of kindness, generosity, and charity. Virtue ethics states that when

we act righteously, we become a more complete person. The basis for all morality is fairness. Due

to this, it would be considered a moral obligation for those who were given more to help those who

were given less. Fairness means everyone is given equally and has equal opportunity.

It was a meaningful experience to give selected children of Barangay Malaban a special

chance to learn more about the Christian character and values and how they can apply what they

have learned to prepare them for a better society in the future. I felt that the community outreach

program not only supported the children to become better individuals, it also uplifted their souls

because we were able to share the story of the kind and loving Creator of all, by letting them know
that He exists and is aware of the prosperity and hardships in their life, and every circumstance in
University of Perpetual Help System – Jonelta
B ar angay Sto. Ni ño, Bi ñan Ci ty, L aguna
College of Education
this living world. Being able to share this precious time with the children was a fulfillment in itself

because I was able to have the opportunity to make them happy in such a simple way. It is also

satisfying knowing that I was able to make someone’s life better – that I took the time and care to

stop focusing on myself just for a short period of time. As a future teacher, I was also at my best

behavior during the program because if the children observed me in the embodiment of ideals that

they value, and they see the effects of this in and through my actions, they may also be inspired to

refine themselves, because I can only facilitate the development of others if I lead by example.

The main purpose of this community outreach program is to be able to help achieve a goal

for the greater and common good. Establishing and maintaining the common good requires the

cooperative efforts of some, often of many, people. Common good is something that is striving

towards a society which is most supportive of individuals' pursuit of virtue, and makes them more

likely to do so. As a student, one of our responsibilities in society is to be able to contribute for the

larger picture and a bigger cause – we need to be able to have the drive and desire to do it, and

there is nothing much that can stop us from doing it. I would also consider this outreach program

a good deed as it brings hope to the children, and if these were to continue annually, it could build

more ways and paths for the children to paint a brighter hope for the future, thus resulting in the

betterment of our society. These good deeds should be done for the sake of humanity, not for the

sake of significance, praise, or personal achievements; and we should not anticipate fulfillment

from our actions, but think of this goodness as an absolute value.

As a member of the society and community, we can all make a difference in changing and

improving the lives of others – while improving ourselves and serving as a role model for others,
University of Perpetual Help System – Jonelta
B ar angay Sto. Ni ño, Bi ñan Ci ty, L aguna
College of Education
and it is time to put the community back into community service. By helping better others, you

may end up bettering yourself in ways you never imagined. We should always remember that to

serve God is to serve others and is one of the greatest demonstrations we can make of Christ-like

love. Loving people through serving them was what Jesus Christ did throughout His earthly

ministry – when we serve others and think of others first, it is a win-win situation.

Children are my favorite thing. This is why I thoroughly loved the half-day teaching

program that was especially designed for the kids in Barangay Malaban, City of Binan. I came to

see how spending time with others who are less fortunate and making them happy, even for a short

while, can make an ordinary event remarkable. I was motivated to persevere more in life so that I

might significantly help those who are less fortunate. Being able to contribute and give the kids a

sense that someone cares about them by teaching them in our own small ways was really gratifying.

The laughter we shared, despite the fact that it only lasted for a day, will always be a part of me.

The outreach was not noteworthy for the food or the games we did, but rather for the grins on the

faces of every child who participated, making it more important. I realized the exercise had been

successful and worthwhile when I saw those smiles.

The outreach program helped me to realize that we might spread happiness to others in

small ways. By helping others, we can make this Christmas memorable. I had such a wonderful

time being with the kids, especially when we got them to giggle. That would go down in my

memory as one of the nicest Christmases I've ever had. The chance to meet with the less fortunate

kids taught me something new about life. They have taught me that contentment and happiness are

choices. Whether we choose to be joyful and content in life is entirely up to us. I appreciate the

pleasant experience, and I also want to thank the barangay captain for being so polite.

- Hibek, Romiel Job

Being a tool for this generation is an honor for us. This outreach program will assist these

children in improving as people. I want our children to be obedient to the same degree that I am.

Teaching children to want to obey is far more important than teaching them to seem to do so. And

don't worry, I am aware that a child's first few years of life are not truly covered by this concept.

In fact, this is the perfect moment for Parents to concentrate on teaching their kids to obey without

poking around. But as your child gets closer to preschool age, it's essential to help them understand

that obedience involves much more than just pleasing the parents.

I think we have a very warped view of obedience on our hands. I suspect that you might

be just as guilty as I know I am. The truth as a Christian, we obey the law because God said so.

It’s willful submission to the authority that God has placed over us. And unless the law requires

us to go against God’s law, we are to obey.

To sum up, educating young kids to obey involves also teaching them to respect their

parents and other crucial morals. When children respect their parents, it helps them comprehend

that they are adults because it establishes appropriate limits and advances everyone's well-being.

December is the month to remember those who lived lives of giving and sharing.

Reactivating the character and values of Filipino children in Malaban by sharing the values and

wisdom of God's words, in which OHYM-Tutorial Kids participated spreading the gift of God

through His creation and imparting to the children how God gifts us with a pure spirit to do greater

good in this world even in a short period of time. Living in the Christian world simply taught me

how to be generous, even in the simple act of giving. This outreach program helps me understand

the importance of giving and sharing in a small way.

This program made me feel elated as my team and I worked together for months to execute

this activity through proper analysis and assessment of who would be the beneficiaries of our event.

The program was a success. I feel satisfied with the smiles and participation of the children in our

program. The way they cooperated and their presence in our community outreach program gave

us hope and fulfillment, giving them a short while to share the seven days of the creation of God

in this world, Bible verses, and more.

Through this community outreach program, I have come to understand that sharing

positivity, love, and the words of God will always be the best feeling, especially knowing that my

team and I are in the field of education. This practice helps us to maintain good acts, kindness,

spiritual knowledge to be shared with students, and various aspects that made the participants

remember the day we spent with them.

Opportunities to serve people and to receive support are both something that should be

treasured. The idea of reaching out to children and extending a hand to them was truly an inspiring

and uplifting sight. I concluded that it was in fact an inspiring and encouraging activity that pushed

each and every one of us to work toward making the lives of other individuals a little bit more

exciting. Some of those who went were privileged to have the chance to build relationships with

the children from the barangay Malaban. They achieved happiness for themselves in their own

unique ways.

This taught me that even the smallest actions may have a significant impact on the emotions

of the children around us. As long as we stay united like this, we will be able to help them promptly.

Even one look at their happy faces might make you forget about your worries for a little while.

What I found most interesting, though, is how much this kind of program can influence individuals

spiritually. We are tremendously grateful for this opportunity. We are also thankful knowing that

we are the reason why they are blessed and feel loved on that day.

Community growth is not possible without community service. In addition, it is a crucial

component of self-actualization and progress. The noblest aspect of existence, so the saying goes,

is when you lose yourself in serving others. Serving others has great impacts on you personally in

addition to having a favorable effect on your community. Serving the community will increase the

likelihood that its objectives will be met, advance the community's development, and foster a sense

of camaraderie among its members. By developing relationships with others, establishing rapport,
University of Perpetual Help System – Jonelta
B ar angay Sto. Ni ño, Bi ñan Ci ty, L aguna

and fostering a sense of camaraderie, you as a person earn advantages from serving. It also

encourages physical and mental well-being. Most importantly, it allows you to experience self-

fulfillment and learning that you might utilize in the future. Given this, it is appropriate to state

that volunteering is always a collaborative effort. You both serve and are served. Opportunities to

assist others and receive assistance should be valued. It was quite a pleasant sight to see individuals

reaching out to others, especially the less fortunate. I could draw the conclusion that it was a

heartwarming and inspirational activity that inspired all of us to practice making other people

happy. It was an honor for those in attendance to develop relationships with the kids in Barangay

Malaban. They brought them happiness in their own tiny ways. Our involvement in outreach

activities had enabled us to share what they had and cheer up kids. Yearning for a decent existence

filled with love is a much deeper and wider hunger that needs to be sated. Through this, I also

learnt to appreciate my surroundings, especially God's numerous bounties, which I had previously

paid little attention to. It also taught me that life is about giving and sharing what one has to offer,

not just taking. Regardless of our financial situation, we must never forget that God is depending

on us to provide for others. The outreach program helped me realize that we could all spread joy

in small ways. By helping others, we may make our day more meaningful.

I discovered that you should never decline an experience before giving it a shot. I can

honestly say that when I woke up on that Thursday morning, all I could think about was seeing my

buddies. I wasn't eager to interact with the kids in person, but I noticed that a student would be

assigned one and would serve as the kuya for the day. I was given a child named Evan who was

about 7 years old. I was able to impart teacher knowledge to him and treat him as a brother. I had

no idea how much pleasure it must have been to guide him and treat him like a sibling. I had no
University of Perpetual Help System – Jonelta

idea what I would be losing out on if I didn't participate in this Thursday Outreach Program. It

would be terrible if I never got to go and missed this opportunity since the experiences and

memories I made on that Thursday are things I will treasure. Enjoy what you have because other

people might have it worse than you. These Malaban children do not lead luxurious lives.

Additionally, they did not choose to live in this manner. They lack personal TVs, air conditioning

in their rooms, telephones, laptops, and computers. I recognize that I should be content with what

I have because I am fortunate to have it. Sometimes I may whine that I don't have the newest phone

or the money to buy the things I want, but some individuals don't even have the things I currently

possess. Even though I have my share of struggles with girls and my assignments, these kids have

it far harder than I do. It is possible to be cheerful despite adversity. We played a variety of games

throughout our time at the Malaban, and I could see the smiles on their faces. Even given the

predicament they were in, I could see how strong and carefree they were. I realized that happiness

is still attainable even if our circumstances are less fortunate. Be content with your life's memories

and experiences rather than its possessions. Material possessions come and go, but our most

enduring possessions are our memories and experiences.
