Emotional intelligence is the ability to perceive, interpret, demonstrate, control,

evaluate, and use emotions to communicate with and relate to others effectively
and constructively. EI consists of five competencies self-awareness, self-
regulation, motivation, empathy & social skills. The first three components
determine how well we manage ourselves & last two competencies determines
how we handle relationships.

Yes, emotional intelligence can be learned. Some people are born with the
emotional intelligence but we can learn & train our mind with emotional
intelligence. The above five competencies can be developed with constant
practise & evaluating himself.

 Self-awareness – This emotional intelligence can be learned with self-


evaluating himself & working on the areas where he is lacking with
continuous improvement to make it better.

 Self-regulation – Its an important component of emotional intelligence & it


can be controlled by keeping our actions & impulse under control by certain
exercises & yoga.

 Motivation - Achievement drive, Commitment, Initiative, Optimism by


bringing in our life we can develop motivation in ourselves & these qualities
will keep us motivated.

 Empathy – By developing & sensing concerns of others, Service orientation,


developing others, leveraging diversity in our work culture can give us a
commendable boost.

 Social skills – By mingling with people will develop team work & team
achievement rather than individual learning & achievement.

These five components if we try to develop these qualities emotional


intelligence will automatically will be improved in ourselves. Some experts
believe that this ability is more important in determining life success than IQ
alone. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to strengthen your own
social and emotional intelligence.

Understanding emotions can be the key to better relationships, improved well-


being, and stronger communication skills.
