The Excellence exemplified by reformists of Illustrados back in the Spanish Colonial
period was a significant quality that the society of today still lacks. Normal people are typically
more inclined to be complacent and neglectful of their work, worse than that is the saying of
“Crab Mentality.” This correlates to the peoples’ judgment of other people who achieve
excellence; instead of exhibiting praise, they instead drag them down to their standing.

Mr. Guittap states that he would strive to be better every time and not simply conform to
the current norm in terms of art or even in the field of life. Achieving excellence for him is being
able to be proud of their achievements whether or not they were excellent in other people’s eyes,
He believes that being contented and complacent was different and that despite being proud of
what he can achieve for himself, his family and country, he will not stop from pursuing
excellence for himself, and everyone around him. Mr. Guittap also stated that he would be proud
of what his fellow Filipinos achieved and what excellence they achieved are also his excellence.

According to Mr. Ladesma always does the right thing by people and takes the high
ground when sticking to your views. Rather than seeking approval from others, trust your
intuition. You must spend the rest of your life living with yourself. Allowing those who do not
share your values to influence your behavior is a bad idea. Set a higher bar for yourself than you
do for others. Every instant of every day, your character is on display. Make sure it makes people
pleased to call you a friend and that it reflects well on you. We Filipinos can be proud of our
humanity in general. We are highly relational people who are skilled at connecting with others on
an emotional and social level. Our versatility is something we Filipinos can be proud of. We are
extremely adaptable to a variety of people, cultures, and situations, which contributes to our
overall well-being. We not only make friends with other Filipinos while traveling, but we also
adapt well to other cultures and people.

According to Mr. Padua, he would take note and raise up any achievement that either he
or someone has gotten as to celebrate the success of that person. Even tiny or small achievements
should be noticed and should not be dismissed as if they were meant to do such a thing. Giving
power to those who achieve and to those who try their best is, in Mr. Padua’s words, the best way
to empower and motivate others to do better and better, not only for themselves but also to those
around them. We have been too used to aiming for greatness that we forget that greatness starts
with something small. Not everything is supposed to be instant or grandeur, a slow build-up is
what most go through and perhaps people who have achieved greatness are still going slow.
Uplift yourself and others just as you would want praise or to praise others for what they do.

In conclusion, exemplifying excellence is achievable by setting oneself as an example

and not forcing ourselves into a path others paved, to be proud of others is to be proud of oneself.
