APPLICATION PROPERTIES

SOFTEX CFC is suitable for softening all kinds of textiles. The following special features should be distinguished
 easy to handle
 very soft, voluminous touch
 resistant to shearing and low-foaming, applicable in machines with high liquor turbulences
 high yellowing resistance, suitable for white and coloured goods
 no yellowing on denim articles
 imparts anti-electrostatic effects to all kinds of fibres
 duetogoodlubricatingproperties, applicableas araisingsoftenerandforimproving running properties of yarns
 influence on the light fastness and the shade not established so far
 free from silicone

APPLICATION FIELDS

SOFTEX CFC provides excellent handle effects on cotton, polyester, polyamide and polyacryl nitrile. The softener is
preferably applied by exhaustion process within a weakly acidic pH range. Due to its high substantivity, SOFTEX CFC shows
good results even in long liquor ratios and at low levels of application.

The application by padding is also possible requiring a pH value of about 6 to 7 in order to prevent an accelerated
exhaustion of the softener.

In case of polyacryl nitrile dyeings, the product can be added directly to the dyebath showing a certain retarding effect.
However, retarder amounts have not to be recalculated. Another possibility is the application in the cooling-down
dyebath. High bulk yarns obtain a very voluminous and soft handle.

MANUFACTURE OF READY-FOR-USE SOFTENERS FROM SOFTEX CFC FLAKES:

We recommend to manufacture first a 10% liquid softener from flakes. If required higher concentrated emulsions can be
made (up to 20% active matter) that have correspondingly higher viscosities.

PROCEDURE
Mix SOFTEX CFC (flakes) with cold or hot water by stirring, heat up to about 80°C, keep this temperature and stir for
about 30 minutes until all flakes are entirely dissolved and a homogeneous emulsion results. Cool down to a
temperature less than 35°C by continuous stirring.

It is also advisable to add subsequently

- a preservative for increasing the storage stability and a defoamer (e.g. 0.2% IMETEX DFM) when the product is applied in
machines with high liquor turbulences or high shearing forces, resp., to be mixed with the cold product (below
35°C) by stirring.

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION

We recommend to dilute the 10% solution of SOFTEX CFC with an equal amount of cold or warm water before it is
added to the liquor.

Depending on the desired effect, the following quantities are suggested:

Exhaust method 1.5 to 3.0% SOFTEX CFC (10%)

pH 4.0 to 5.0 acetic acid

40 - 50°C; 20 minutes

Padding 10 - 30 g/l SOFTEX CFC (10%)

pH 6.0 to 7.0
