Why do Architects draw?

The importance of rendering in Architecture
- Drawing is one of great value, not

only to architect, but to all
mankind in this complex society.
But if our society become complex,
so has architectural drawing and
today few laymen can understand
or “read” working drawings.
- Due to this, the architectural
picture, or rendering has become
an important and indispensable
part of today’s practice.
- The bridge between the intellect
of the client and that of architect.
The importance of rendering in Architecture
- The rendering accomplishes a

number of other things the
architect. It permits him, in one of
the few approved ways, to “sell”
the jobs to his client.
- The rendering is visual evidence of
his success, and it helps the
architect to carry the owner’s
dreams toward reality.

- Extremely effective for fast
sketches.
- Often used to cover large
areas quickly
- Chalky in composition
- Produced a good colored
rendering with an almost
watercolor-like appearance.
- Highly recommended for
rendering skies, lakes, & other
bodies of water

- Most widely black & white
technique.
- range from felt-tip pens to

- Can easily be combined with
other media.
- Most frequently used as a base
to which color is added
- Colored pencil, marker &

- Applied wet but dries almost
instantly.
- Realistic colors may be easily
achieved without mixing colors
or using a brush.
- Versatile, wide color selection

Water Color
- Among the oldest known form
of art and one of the most
difficult to master.
- Can’t be controlled & Corrected
the way other media can.
- Two ways to apply water color
rendering, 1. to use pencil
lightly drawn on paper & then
render or 2. to use pen & ink
and outline the drawing and
then render.
- The 2nd method is much simpler
and gives a rendering a sharp
image.

Tempera
- A water-soluble paint that
becomes sufficiently insoluble
when dry to allow over painting.
- Much easier to control than
watercolor, as it allows to make
corrections.
- Excellent for adding details &
entourages such as figures,
cars, and vegetation

- It adds scale to the drawing an d
