CHAPTER TWO

2 MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY

Software application

A good Presentation technique plays a great role for the successive project. Because of this I
try to use advanced software during my overall internship project executed in the last three
successive months. For two dimensional drawings Auto CAD 2007 (for 2D drawings Floor
plans and Details)

For 3D modeling:

• Revit 2020

For rendering:

•LUMION 8.5,

•Twin motion 2019,

• Adobe PHOTOSHOPE,

• Adobe illustrator.

2.1 METHODOLOGY USED

It is explicitly known that best methodology is always preferable in terms of different aspect
and also for the successive computation world so that during the entire months I have been
used different methodology to come up with the effective output project like:

• Site analysis,

• Client brief,

• Conceptual sketches and diagram,

• Program development,

7
• Different architectural books for standards,

• Google map.

Using these methods and inputs I tried to achieve a better quality work in terms of design and
working drawings.

2.2 SECTION IN THE COMPANY

HAYU consulting architects and engineers handle projects from design stage up to site super
vision in it there is four sections but HAYU is new in the firm so the numbers of man power is
not enough, that makes some professional to participate in different stages repeatedly

The designs prepared in this stage should address various disciplines these are:

•Architectural,

•Structural Engineering,

•Sanitary engineering,

• Electrical Engineering,

•Site super vision.

3.2.1 ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS

Will be prepared in sufficient detail and appropriate scales. Dimensions will be shown and
materials will be selected, identified, scheduled and detailed in sufficient clarity for ease of
taking off quantities and preparing specifications. These are:

•floor plans,

•All elevations,

•Sections location plan, site plan, layout plan,

• Schedule of doors and window,

• Finishing materials,

•And various details vii. 3D views.

8
3.2.2 STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
The task in the structural section is done closely with the other sections. Each detail works,
Columns will be sized and detailed to resist the applied axial force moment and shears the
design of the foundation will be finalizes taking into consideration the final applied vertical
lateral and rotational forces.

Sap will be used to perform a3D analysis of the building for gravity, wind or seismic loads.
And lateral force resisting members will be sized and detailed to satisfy the allowable drift
limits. Finally, this section will publish

•Plans of slab reinforcement,

• Foundation plans,

•Structural sections,

• Beam column and foundation reinforcement and

• Bar bending schedule.

3.2.3 SANITARY ENGINEERING

After the approval of the preliminary design, our sanitary engineer will continue with the final
design of sanitary papers. Depending on architectural and structural results, they will prepare
a complete sanitary detail working drawings which includes

• Layout for water distribution, soil and waste drainage pipes, storm water drainage system fire
protection system.

• Preparation of riser diagrams (isometric drawings) for water supply piping, sanitary lines,
and fire hydrant systems

•Preparation of layout for –soil water drainage system

• Design of external waters and sanitary and drainage works

9
• Preparation of details for water supply in clouding, reservoirs, pumping units, pump rooms,
fire hydrants etc.

• Preparation of details for sewerage system including, west treatment units, west disposal units
etc. vii. Preparation of final design report, completed with calculations.

3.2.4 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Here Drawings showing lighting and power circuits on floor plans, external lighting circuits,
power cables distribution plans and single line diagrams will be prepared The final task all
those 4sevtions (architectural, structural, sanitary and electrical) will be preparing all drawings
together with all the design reports, structural calculation and bill of quantities and
specifications and estimate will be submitted to the client.

3.2.5 SITE SUPER VISION

This section controls every issue related to the site work.

3.2.6 CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION

In this section the complete working drawing will be developed by the draft’s person. The bill of
quantities will be calculated by the quantity surveyor. Parallel to the work of this section, the
engineering section will also work out structural. Sanitary and electrical drawings and construction
details which will finally be submitted to the office to be plotted out. After plotting the blue prints will
be prepared and handed over to the clients to be approved by the municipality. Following the approval
if the clients are still interested the construction will be supervised by the office till its completion.
Otherwise they will prepare an auction document to compete the contractors for the construction work

CHAPTER THREE

3 OVERALL INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

Joining the company

At the end of the third academic year the UIL (university industry linkage) gives me a chance
to search and apply to any architectural form. What i did was going to HAYU consulting
architects and engineers firm and requesting to join them. Thanks to MR, FIRAOL l what I
asked to bring was only a portfolio. As I gave him my portfolio, he gave me the news that I
am officially an intern in their firm and I can start any day I can.

Procedures

The general team procedure we followed to produce a design are the same as we know in the
campus except some minor modifications. First determination of the programs and the type of
client, then site analysis, then program analysis plus gathering data about the material (
conceptual sketches), program arrangement, consult, redesigning (if necessary), form analysis
in combination with modification of functions, and after final consult preparing working
drawings.

CHAPTER FOUR

4 ASSESSMENT OF THE INTERNSHIP

General Theoretical Knowledge from the Office

Internship is very important for students which enhance classroom learning by integrating
academic curriculum and real-world work experience and which enable students to apply
classroom theory to actual work situation.

During my internship period at Hayu Consulting Architect and Engineering, I have acquired
much knowledge in different aspect which is broadly explained below.

General theoretical knowledge from the office One of the benefits I took from chief architect,
Firaol, attitude approach and passion how to handle his own clients and his staff members. I
was really astonished by his attitude by his willingness to push and let us express our design
approach, he never discourage the progress of our design and not let us do only his own
approach. He believes that” every architect has their own way of attitude passion and approach
to do the same project but for him each of us should consider design parameter which are
CONTEXT, COMMODOTY, FIRMNESS, DELIGHT and INNOVATION” such things have
basic thing for every design.

Context: Good design is informed by its context. It considers being all nearby nature and built
physical futures as well as social economic transport and environmental factor that impact on
a site. In general context means seeing the building place and spaces as part of whole town and
cities.

Commodity: It means how the structure serves its function. The space that we create should
be feasible. One that we overlooked, in the design is feasibility of the space we create for
different function, most of the time that we adopt from indoor studio we don’t recognize the
value of space per meter square for our clients so we had simply left the spaces for greenery
and for different non livable function but during my internship time the major thing that I took
from my esteemed architect let me know how to realize each of the space weather feasible or
not for the client.

35
Firmness: It deals about durability of the structure construction, material that convinced to the
context. The other major practical knowledge that I took from the office, which is how to design
constructible, cost effective and tangible building design consideration the ability of our
country contactors, efficiency of our workmanship and technology advancement.

Delight: Delight concern on the esthetic of the volume as well the façade treatment. When we
think about the façade treatment of our building we have to consider the connection between
the building nearby the site and we also consider the material for the construction, it’s
preferable to use eco-friendly material also consider capability of our workmanship.

Innovation: - Innovation in architecture is the application of ideas and fresh solution to meet
new requirements. There is essential ingredient, one that is often overlooked, which is what
really innovation means, it is not what we think at the first stage of one design but it comes
after a long progress in different point of view, discussion and team work plays a great role to
get a well manner design output.

In one design Innovation is not only generated from architects but its chain work with different
professions, the communication system within different staff plays great role in achievement
of innovative work.

4.1 GAIN REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE THAT ALL STUDENTS SEEK

As a student we all needed to advance our critical thinking skills, excellent written and oral
communication skills, the ability to work in a team, above all else real-world experience in our
field. This skill set cannot be achieved by only spending time in the classroom and earning our
degree.

Volunteering and being engaged on campus through student organization are great ways to
develop personally and professionally, but the best resource available to us to gain the skill that
employers covet most is to participate in internship, during the internship we have the ability
to engage in multiple projects, and interact with everyone in the office, which enable us to
diversify our experiences.

Promote exposure to various fields

36
One of the many great advantages that internship offer students is that it enable us to try on
many different careers during their time as a student. There is one essential ingredient, one that
is often overlooked, which is the ability to communicate our idea clearly with other staff
department, most of the time we all architecture students have not ample of knowledge about
other professions which are ingredient and part of our field like structural, electrical, bill of
quantity and other related field which the coordination skill cannot be achieved by only indoor
studio but such kind of internship program introduce us how to coordinate such related fields.

4.1.1TEAM WORK SKILL

In creative architectural world team work plays a great role in different piece of task.
Coordination with different professions not only increase productivity and strong the idea of
the task but also help to improve interpersonal communication with different attitude.

CHAPTER FIVE

5. Conclusion and Recommendation

5.1 CONCLUSION
Experience and outside practical world is the key to success for architecture. Architecture can
not only achieved by theoretical part but after a long experience and life time achievement we
can acquired much knowledge and come up with the real spirit of architecture.

Choosing internship is the best route we could have possible taken not only will the experience
of working internship in a firm show up on our resume, but we will gain priceless bits of
knowledge that will help us on our way to become an architect.

Just begin at Hayu consulting architect and engineering for last three months has given me
knowledge that I probably would not have gather in academic setting. I have already worked
on several projects throughout the firm. The design studio involve a comprehensive integration
of theory, practice, design processes, and building systems with emphasis placed on highly
efficient project is held to a standard of sufficient realism with input of multiple members and
disciplines of the firm.

Generally the experience was quiet interesting which enhance the overall classroom learning
by integrating academic curriculum and real-world work experience and also develop my
relations skills through interaction in career settings. My expectation ware met and seceded. I
would highly recommend this experience to any dedicated architecture student who is curiously
wants to have more experience.

38
5.2RECOMMENDATION
General working in Hayu consulting architect and engineering company has been very
educating. I would highly recommend this experience to any dedicated architecture student.

In my perception for architecture life it should not be only concern on client brief but we have
to be influential and play a big part to introduce our real architectural style. Ones that is often
over looked, knowing about historic, cultural preservation, restoration was ingredient tool for
the success reveal of our architectural style. Regarding to this approach I recommended that
for the company we are the one who can divert and mound the trend, especially by the time
being so it’s better to concern on our historical cultural buildings and balancing the past and
future architecture without demolishing our own style.

I would also suggest this relevant recommendation for university.

• Continues interaction with this company can be a key to make Dambi Dollo architecturally
exemplary since there is more wisdom knowledge and art.

• It would be better to send the students on time.

• In our professions small numbers of firms are found so that it was difficult to get a place for
internship because of this most of the students was suffered to get a place, so it’s preferable to
give a big attention for placement of the students.
