Statistical Treatment of Data

To answer specific questions raised in the Statement of the Problem, the following statitistics will be used:

Percentage. This can be used to answer the question on the demographic profiles of the Grade 10 students.
Mean. This can be utilized to determine the averages of age, final grade in English, performances before and after the use of
Dependent t-test. This will be used to answer specific question numbers 4 and 6.
Learning gains. This will be utilized to answer question number 5.

Age f x fx x - mean (x-mean)^2 f(x-mean)^2

23 - 25 1 24 24 8.14 66.2596 66.2596
20 - 22 2 21 42 5.14 26.4196 52.8392
17 - 19 13 18 234 2.14 4.5796 59.5348
14 - 16 54 15 810 -0.86 0.7396 39.9384
n = 70 1110 218.572

Mean=Sum(fx)/n = 1110/70=15.86

Population Standard deviation = sqrt(sumf(x - mean)^2/n) = sqrt(218.572/70)=1.77

Sample standard deviation= sqrt(sumf(x - mean)^2/(n-1))=sqrt(218.572/69)=1.78
