SEMESRER - III
CET – I EXAMINATION 2021

Course Code: T2380C4 Date: 27/10/2021

Course Name: Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines Total Marks: 30
Time: 10:30 am to 11:30 am
Instructions:
1. Figures to the right indicate full marks.
2. Attempt all questions.

Q.1 (a) What is Balancing? 02

(b) A disturbing mass of 20 kg attached to a rotating shaft at a distance 50 mm from 04
axis of rotation. How far should be a balancing mass of 2 kg mounted to balance
the disturbing mass?
(c) Explain balancing of several rotating masses in the same plane using analytical 06
method.
Q.2 (a) List various types of Cams. 02
(b) List the various types of balancing. 04
(c) Four masses 150 kg, 200 kg, 100 kg and 250 kg are attached to a shaft revolving 06
at radii 150 mm, 200 mm, 100 mm and 250 mm; in planes A, B, C and D
respectively. The planes B, C and D are at distances 350 mm, 500 mm and 800
mm from plane A. The masses in planes B, C and D are at an angle 105°, 200°
and 300° measured anticlockwise from mass in plane A. It is required to balance
the system by placing the balancing masses in the planes P and Q which are
midway between the planes A and B, and between C and D respectively. If the
balancing masses revolve at radius 180 mm, find the magnitude and angular
position of the balance mass placed in plane Q using analytical method.
OR
Q.2 (a) Let the disturbing mass be 100 kg and the radius of rotation be 20 cm and the 02
rotation speed be 50 rad/s, then calculate the centrifugal force.
(b) State the applications of Cam. 04
(c) Explain the balancing of single rotating mass. 06
Q.3 Attempt any 2 questions out of 3 questions. 06
(a) Define: (1) Cam (2) Follower
(b) Classify the followers according to the surface in contact.
(c) Four masses m1, m2, m3 and m4 are 200 kg, 300 kg, 240 kg and 260 kg
respectively. The corresponding radii of rotation are 0.2 m, 0.15 m, 0.25 m and
0.3 m respectively and the angles between successive masses are 45°, 75° and
135°. Find the magnitude of the balance mass required, if its radius of rotation is
0.2 m.
