    2 components of grammar

    Syntax is the study of sentence structure.

    Morphology is the analysis if word structure.

    • Inflectional morphology is the study of the variation in form of single lexical


    items for grammatical purposes. e.g. artist- artists.

    • Derivational (or lexical) morphology is the study pf word formation, e.g. art –
    artist -artistic.

    the system by which the words and morphemes of a language are organised into large
    units, particularly into sentences.
