Chemical Engineering Department

Homework (Pc Lab) (15%)

Semester Fall Year 2022
Course Title Chemical Engineering Laboratory
Course Code CHE 435 Section M5

Student Name Student ID

Due Date Refer to Moodle Instructor Dr. M. Tajammal Munir

1 Learning Outcomes

By completing this project, the students should be able to:

 Have hands-on experience in running ASPEN simulation for integrated chemical
process.
 Get familiar with ASPEN HYSIS components and modules.
 Gain hands-on experience in analyzing simulation results and interpret the outcome and
draw conclusions out of them.

2 Assignment submission deadline

Assignment is to be submitted as HYSYS file containing the simulation of the process

described in the assignment statement section. Submission deadline is in week 10 on
Wednesday, November 30th, 2022, at 11:59 PM.

3 Plagiarism
Upon suspicion and doubt of the authenticity of the work submitted, the instructor has the right
to ask the student to verify her/his work. This can be done through, but not limited to, oral
examination or discussion, or any other action deemed necessary. If the student fails to prove
the authenticity of the work, then the instructor will apply the academic misconduct rules as
mentioned in the AUM Student Handbook which may include awarding the work a zero grade.
You will also be held responsible if someone else copies your work - unless you can
demonstrate that you have taken reasonable precautions against copying. For a detailed
description of academic misconduct please refer to the undergraduate AUM Student
Handbook.

4 Assignment statement
Natural gas (Inlet gas stream) is mixed (M-100) with water (water to sat steam) to be
saturated and excess water is separated (FWKO TK column) as a bottom product (FWKO
stream). The upper product (Gas to contactor stream) is sent to a TEG contactor (Absorber
column) where the hydrate formation compounds are absorbed by TEG (TEG feed
stream). (Dry gas stream) is produced as an overhead product. The bottom product (Rich
TEG stream) is produced as an overhead product. The bottom product (Rich TEG stream)
passes through a valve and the outlet (LP TEG stream) is heated in the shell side of a heat
exchanger (E100 L/R_HEX) by the (Regen bttms) stream. The shell side and the tube side
outlets are called (Regen Feed stream) and (Lean from L/R stream), respectively. (Regen
Feed stream) feeds the TEG regenerator (Distillation column) to produce (Sour gas stream)
as a vapor product and (Regen bttms stream) as a liquid outlet which is used as the inlet
tube side of the (E100). (Lean from L/R stream) is mixed (M-101) with (Makeup TEG
stream) and the resulting mixture (TEG to pump stream) is pumped to the tube side of a
heat exchanger (E-100). The tube side inlet is called (Pump out stream) and the tube’s
outlet is (TEG to recycle stream) which is recycled as (TEG feed stream) to the TEG
contactor. (Dry gas stream) enters the shell side of the (E-101) and cooled (Sales gas
stream). To ensure the (Sales gas stream) meets the desired specifications, a component
splitter (TEG Remove) is attached to completely remove TEG as an overhead (TEG
only stream) from the remaining components (Water Dew-point stream). As a final
purification step, (Water Dew-point stream) is sent to a water dew-point splitter to remove
condensed water from all the remaining natural gas components. Use Peng-Robinson
