MY FIELD STUDY EXPERIENCES

A NARRATIVE REPORT

FIRST SEMESTER A.Y. 2022-2023

Presented to

The Faculty of the College of Education

Holy Cross College

Jasmine S. Villaroman

BSED English IV-A

Preface

This narrative report has been written in order to share

my first-hand teaching observation experience among the

readers. Training consists of four main components:

developing knowledge, through exploring theory to understand

the concepts behind a skill or strategy; the demonstration or

modelling of skill; the practice of skill and peer coaching.

I am lucky I was given the opportunity to learn these things

through observing in a limited face-to-face classroom set up

in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The events written on this narrative were all true and

based on my personal experience throughout observing in an

online class. These experiences are very close to my heart,

as I know that it has provided me with knowledge that I will

be able to use in the career I chose to pursue.

Dedication

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow

belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

- Malcolm X

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs

to those who prepare for it today. “This is true for a number

of reasons the most important being that whatever one wants

to do in life he or she must first start by creating a

foundation that is stable and solid. The only way to do so is

to at the very least have an idea of what you want to attain

and what it takes to get there. Education is the gateway to

accomplishing that.

This study is wholeheartedly dedicated to my beloved parents,

who have been my source of inspiration and gave me strength

when I thought of giving up, who continually provide their

moral, emotional, and financial support. To my friends, and

classmates who shared their words of advice and encouragement

to me to finish this study. To my partner who gave his time,

effort and love just to support me and lastly, I dedicated

this book to the Almighty God, thank you for the guidance,

strength, power of mind, This Field Study book is dedicated

to all of you.
Acknowledgement

I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all the

people who have helped me in the process of completing this

your continuous support, and guidance on us as we accomplish

this significant task;

To our Department Head, Ma’am Donna Michelle Gomez, thank

you for your guidance to have this wonderful field study

observation experience;

To my very brilliant Professor, Dr. Agnes Aquino.

Thank you for all the knowledge, and words of encouragement

you have given me. You have contributed a lot of learning to

me, may it be on educational and life learning;

To Dr. Dolores S.I Salvador, for allowing us to have these

experiences which we will take with us as we pursue our

aspirations.
To my Cooperating Teacher Mrs. Eufrocinia Carrillo,

thank you for sharing your knowledge and strategies because

it surely helped me to grow and also thank you for sharing

your experiences that made me more inspired and passionate.

Lastly to God, for giving me the strength, and guidance

in choosing the right people whom I have in my life now.

All these thank you will not be enough to say how grateful

I am to this moment. I will all treasure these experiences

within me forever.
Introduction

Field Study is a component of the New Pre-service Teacher

Education Curriculum that aims to expose the students to
actual field experiences so that they can relate the theories
learned inside the classroom with those experiences. These
off-classroom experiences would emphasize the importance of
understanding the complex work of the teacher in this era of
globalization.
Through Field Study courses:
a. students are encouraged to give meaning to the
nature and context educational changes that have
impact on teacher education;
b. pre-service students bring to teacher education
their experiences and beliefs that may influence
their teaching and learning.
c. students acquire knowledge and understanding in
the process of learning to teach, and how they are
acquired.
This Field Study book is designed to facilitate the
understanding and simplification of the activities that can
be completed within the 17-hour time allocated for the subject

May the users of this book be helped in their

understanding and acquisition of the necessary competencies
in the professional subjects on which they are anchored

Summary of Experiences

Before our deployment, we are called for a Field Study

Orientation, days before our first observation, where we are

informed with the Do’s and Do Not’s during our observation,

and that we need to complete the required 240 hours of

observation. To be honest at that time I was very nervous

because I knew that I will be out of my comfort zone and the

saddest part is that I will be away from my friends.

Thankfully, as time passes by, we learned how to adjust with

the new set up and we are learning how to actually enjoy the

experiences.

Being a student teacher is difficult, imagine a student

will teach to other students? You will actually be spending

more hours than a typical school day in the classroom,

planning, teaching, and consulting with your CT. By the end

of the day, you will be extremely tired. But I would say that

my student teaching experience has been the best! It is the

most informational and inspiring experience and I had a great

time with my students, and to my cooperating teacher who

supported from day one, and she gave me the confidence I

needed to keep progressing. Memories with my students was

unforgettable, they will forever remain in my heart.
