Present Continuous tense

Pengertian:
Yaitu suatu bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan atau
kejadian yang sedang berlangsung saat ini atau sekarang. Perhatikan skema/gambar
berikut:

Past: Lampau

Present: Sekarang

Future: Masa depan

Rumus:
Kalimat positif : S + Be (am, is, are) + V-ing
Kalimat negatif: S + Be (am, is, are) + not + V-ing
Kalimat interogative: Be (am, is, are) + S + V-ing?

You, they, we: are

Kata keterangan waktu (adverb of time) yang biasa digunakan:

Now, right now, at the moment, today, dll.
Contoh:
1. (+) Mother is cooking fish now.
(-) Mother is not cooking fish now.
(?) Is mother cooking fish now? Yes, she is/No, she is not.

2. (+) Rudi and Ani are playing badminton at the moment.

(-) Rudi and Ani are not playing badminton at the moment.
(?) Are Rudi and Ani playing badminton at the moment? Yes, they are/No, they are
not.
3. What are you doing right now?
I am writing a letter.
4. What is the cat doing?
It is eating some fish.
5. What is Sinta drinking now?
She is drinking a glass of ice tea.

Past Continuous tense

Pengertian:
Yaitu suatu bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan atau
kejadian yang sedang berlangsung atau terjadi di masa lampau dan atau untuk
menyatakan suatu kejadian yang sedang berlangsung ketika peristiwa lain terjadi.
Perhatikan skema/gambar berikut:

Past: Lampau

Rumus:
Kalimat positif : S + Be (was, were) + V-ing
Kalimat negatif: S + Be (was, were) + not + V-ing

Catatan:
Untuk menyatakan dua kejadian yang sedang berlangsung maka kita dapat
menggunakan kata sambung “while” sedangkan untuk menyatakan satu kejadian
sedang berlangsung disusun kejadian lain terjadi maka kita gunakan kata sambung
“when”
- While diikuti past continuous
- When diikuti simple past

Kata keterangan waktu (adverb of time) yang biasa digunakan:

Yesterday, last night, an hour ago, last week, last month, dll.
Contoh:
1. (+) Shidqi was playing badminton at 8 p.m. last night.
2. (-)Shidqi was not playing badminton at 8 p.m. last night.
(?) Was mother cooking fish now? Yes, he was/No, he was not.

3. (+) Rani was sleeping when his father knocked the door.
(-)Rani was not sleeping when his father knocked the door.
(?) Was Rani sleeping when his father knocked the door? Yes, she was/No, she was
not.
4. (+) Rere and Samsul were watering the flowers while their mother was cooking in the
kitchen.
(-) Rere and Samsul were not watering the flowers while their mother was cooking in
the kitchen.
(?) Were Rere and Samsul watering the flowers while their mother was cooking in the
kitchen? Yes, they were/No, they were not.

Future Continuous tense

Pengertian:
Yaitu suatu bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu tindakan atau
kejadian yang sedang berlangsung di waktu yang akan datang. Perhatikan
skema/gambar berikut:

Future: Masa depan

Tonight, tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, by the end of this month, etc.
