01. Scope
This procedure details the methods to be used by BWQ personnel for
the Penetrant inspection of components in ferritic and non ferritic materials,
in accordance with ASME Section v.
Penetrant
For the purpose of this procedure Penetrant will be in types:
i. visible dye Penetrant
ii. fluorescent dye Penetrant
Emulsifier:
To be used to make the Penetrant water washable
Developer
Developers consist powder suspended in a volatile spirit.
pre-cleaning
All examined surfaces shall be pre-cleaned by suitable mean .
Penetrant application
The Penetrant should be uniformly applied over the entire surface
under examination, the temperature of the surface under
examination shall be within the limits of (16 to 52 co )
Development
Before applying the developer the surface must be completely dry,
a thin uniform coating should be applies using a spray and allowed
to dry.
Viewing conditions
The area under examination shall be illuminated by day light or
artificial light to a level of not less than 500 lux.
06. Reporting
All tests carried out in accordance with this procedure shell be the
subject of a written report which will be made on the appropriate
form
