Synopsis: Students will be exposed to basic diagnostics techniques and methods used in
identifying the failure of the machinery system. Fault tree analysis method is
important for the purpose of monitoring data for maintenance of a machine
system as well. This course will also discuss the diagnostics data processing and
distribution of statistical diagnostics for smooth management of maintenance
work.

Assignment 1:

In this task, each group need to prepare a PRESENTATION SLIDE for diagnosis of damaged or broken
equipment at technology campus area. This assignment will help students gain general knowledge in
the area of diagnostic and troubleshooting. It also trains students to think critically.

Task Specification: As a maintenance specialists in your plant, you are given a task to inspect and
monitor all assets at your working area. Every day as a routine, you have to walk around the plant and
determine a damaged asset to be diagnosed. Your tasks are:

1) Find a possible damaged asset/machine at technology campus

2) Follow standard procedure to diagnose an asset/machine

3) Use all diagnostic tools that are related to the problem you are dealing with

4) Write a report based on your finding during asset/machine diagnosis

5) Discuss your results/findings in your report (power point slide)

Your data parameter should include:

1) Symptoms

2) Damage mechanism

3) Possible root cause based on seven causes of failure

4) Corrective action

5) Preventive action to avoid repeated case

Your possible locations are:

1) Pump room area

2) Cooling tower area

3) All labs that contain broken equipment [milling machine, lathe machine, hydraulic]

4) Individual car or motorcycle [engine, motor, radiator, compressor, throttle valve]

5) AHU room

6) Faculty building

Note:
Don't diagnose small electronic equipment such as hair dryer, laptop, desktop, mobile phone. This
task is specifically for industrial assets.

SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION

1. All relevant information about fundamental theory should from papers/journals (latest 10 years), website,
book/handbook, interview with staff, asset/machine manuals or other trusted resources. Please include it in your
last page of slide.
2. There must be 4-5 members for each group (lab group) and please attach your self picture.
3. Presentation material must be between 20-30 slides only (in *.pptx format).
4. All pictures, flowchart, diagram related must be included.
5. All slides must be submitted not later than 13th December 2022.
6. Submit the slide to Ulearn system.
7. Physical (F2F) presentation should takes approximately 20 minutes.
