Cognition is the scientific term for "the process of thought." It implies "conceptualization"
or recognition). It involves the processing of information, applying knowledge, and
changing preferences.

Understanding the cognitive dimension is about discerning patterns of shared beliefs,

knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions within a cultural group and the way they may affect
the problem-solving and decision-making processes of individuals in that group.

In relation to education, the cognitive dimension of education is that which deals with
knowledge. Education is normally equated with the acquisition of knowledge. Learning
cannot be said to have taken place if no knowledge has been passed on to the learners.
In fact, knowledge is whatever remains after all has been forgotten.

In this way, the cognitive dimension is understood as the great capacity of human beings
to relate, act, analyze, create, and transform reality, facilitating the construction of
knowledge and the production of new knowledge, which has an experiential basis through
experiences or situations, which are transformed into preconceptions, interests, and
needs, with a vision of the inner and outer world.

The development of the cognitive dimension in childhood and adolescence is directed to:

-Understanding the world (having critical clarity of the reality in which life unfolds).

-Understanding people and things.

-Understanding the body and its feelings, and how to take care of oneself.

-To be restless for research.

-To have sufficient knowledge of different knowledge.

-To have the capacity to understand, analyze, and creatively apply knowledge in constant
interaction with oneself, with others, and with nature.

-To be proactive

Education has an explicit task in society to develop the learner’s cognition. Choices are
made regarding the learning environment and permitted actions that lead to a formative
experience. There are a lot of cognitive processes that take place for learning to occur.
Therefore, the learning environment (teachers, resources, etc.) is an important
component of knowledge acquisition.

As a conclusion, I personally think that when we apply a cognitive dimension to learning

and teaching, it is focused on the understanding of information and concepts. If we are
able to understand the connections between concepts, break down information and
rebuild it with logical connections, then our retention of material and understanding will
increase. Based on experiences, interests, and needs and on the vision of the inner and
outer world, this capacity enables human beings to develop levels of thought throughout
life and allows them to understand reality.
