INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

Test question paper will be uploaded to Spectrum and Whatsapp group at 9:55 am.
4. Imbas dan hantar jawapan (dalam format pdf) ke Spectrum sebelum 11.15 pagi.
Namakan fail dengan nombor matrik baru anda. Hubungi pensyarah kursus dengan
kadar segera jika ada sebarang masalah.
Scan and submit the answer (in pdf format) to Spectrum before 11.15 am. Name the file as
your new matrix number. Contact the subject lecturer immediately if there is any problem.
Question 1:
(a) Projects can be broadly classified into three categories, i.e. Compliance, Strategic and
Operational. In your own words, explain the difference of each category. Next, pick
any company of your choice and give examples of compliance, strategic and
operational projects for that company.

(b) You are the CEO of a manufacturing company. You switch your company from a
functional organization to a matrix organization structure. One year later, things are
not going as planned and the matrix form of your organization is very weak.
(i) Identify the potential reason for the weak implementation.

(ii) Propose a way to improve the implementation.

Question 2:
(a) You are assigned as a project manager for UMBike Project. This project’s mission is
to build a bicycle. Create a work breakdown structure (WBS) for this project. You are
required to identify all of the major components and provide three levels of detail.
(5 marks)
(b) Based on the WBS which you have created in (a), however, during the half way of the
project, your client requires a scope change, i.e. to have a lightweight and foldable
bicycle for easy carry. As the project manager, suggest two additional sub-
deliverables to fulfil the scope required.

(c) Provided that the Project Change Request above has been approved by the Change
Control Body of your organization, and if the project has the following priority
scenarios:
Scope-constrain,
Cost-accept,
Time-enhance
As the project manager, briefly describe what would you do to ensure the success
completion of the project?
