Compressor-side shaft sealing Cus 204 • 05/04

General A copper ring (517.801) had been installed in the bearing cas-
ing (517.001) in the past to fulfil the purpose of a compressor-side shaft
sealing in NR24/R turbochargers (see figure).
Reason for modification Operating experiences showed that in a few isolated cases the labyrinth
ring (520.006) in the copper ring may jam after the exchange of the
copper ring. The reason has been an incorrect fitting position of the set
screws (517.809) in the bearing casing/coppe r ring after maintenance
works, causing a deformation of the copper ring_
Improvement To faciliate the assembly in maintenance works, a cast ring will replace
the copper ring. New turbocha rgers, cartridges and bearing casings will
be delivered without this cast ring .
Recommendation We recommend the exchange of the copper ring during the next mainten-
ance. The new cast ring can be ordered via ou r Tu rbocharger Service
