CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research process applied to answer the stated problem. In this

section, there's a discussion of the research design, the method of data collection used, and how

the data collected and analyzed.

RESEARCH DESIGN

For this study, the research design that is used is descriptive research design, the

characteristics of the population or phenomenon studied. Wherein it will assess the preparedness

of Grade 12 students under the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Strand before

entering the Tertiary Level of Education or College

RESPONDENTS/ SAMPLING PROCEDURE

The Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics students of the ACLC

College of Iriga, Inc are chosen to be respondents to the research. The sampling methods used in

non-probability method used quota sampling because of the researcher's familiarity with the

possible respondents. There are 60 students chosen to be respondents of the study. Here are some

considerations that the researchers based their selection of respondents:

1. Respondents should be currently studying at the ACLC College of Iriga, Inc as grade

12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics students.

2. Respondents should be knowledgeable about the career path that they will choose.

3. Respondents should be willing to respond to the questions to give credible answers.

DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENTS

A questionnaire is a tool designed to obtain quantitative data. It is widely used in

conducting research as it is a good research instrument for collecting standardized data and making
generalizations. Because we are now in a post-pandemic situation, it was recommended that the

surveys are conducted face-to-face. Respondents may be able to convey their answers through the

use of their pen or pencil by answering the given questions. The survey will be delivered room by

room (all sections of STEM strand).

STATISTICAL INSTRUMENTS

The percentage technique is used to determine the respondents' profile; division and

categorization are tabulated and ascertained using the same statistical method.

The formula used was:

R
P = N x 100

Where:

P = percentage equivalent to the respondents

N = total number of respondents

R = frequency of the respondent

100 = constant

The Weighted Mean is the concept of the weighted mean is quite often used in accounts,

to give different weights based on time or based on priority.

TWF
WM =
N

Wherein:

WM = weighted mean

TMF = total weighed frequency

N = total number of respondents

To identify the weighted mean for each indicator, the following rating scale is used:

Table 3.1 : Weighted mean for each Indicator and Verbal Interpretation

Scale Range Measurement Scale

5 4.50 – 5.00 Strongly agree

4 3.50 – 4.49 Agree

3 2.50 – 3.49 Neutral

2 1.50 – 2.49 Disagree

1 1.00 – 1.49 Strongly disagree

The Ranking Method is used in the study to show the order standing, as which indicator

is first, next, and so on.

SURVEY QUESTIONS

With the honest answers taken from the 60 randomly selected respondents, the researchers

used the following questions to gather and analyze the data needed. The respondents were required

to answer the following questions:

Sir/ Maam,
Good Day!
We are Grade 12 STEM-A Senior High School students fromACLC College of Iriga, we are
currently conducting a research paper titled, Career Aspiration of STEM Graduating Students in ACLC
College of Iriga, Inc. This research paper serves as a requirement on one of our subject which is the Practical
Research II. In accordance with this, we are asking to answer the survey questionner. Your cooperation will
be recognized and appreciated, and we assure you that all of the information you share will be safe in our
hands. Thank you very much!
