CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURE

This portion of study presents and explains the research design, participants of the study,

data gathering procedure, and statistical treatment applied in the study.

Research Design

To serve the purpose of this study that focused about the effects of using Smart TV as an

instructional material in improving academic performance of the selected grade 12 CHS and

Animation students of Nova Schola. The researchers used the descriptive method of research in

gathering the data needed to achieve the goal of the study. It was a method used for it’s a fact

finding study with adequate and accurate interpretations of findings.

The method guided the researchers to determine the impacts of using technological gadgets

on the learning performance of the selected respondents.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are the selected Grade 12 CHS and Animation students. Fifty

(50) selected Grade 12 CHS and Animation students that are from the whole population of Grade

12 CHS and Animation students was used in this study for reason that they often use Smart TV

in their track. Simple random sampling was used in selecting the respondent. This sampling was

conducted where each student has an equal and independent opportunity to be part of the sample.

Research Instrument

In order to elicit the information needed in the study, the researchers utilized self-

constructed questionnaire.
The questionnaire has two parts wherein the first part is the students’ profile and the

questions for them. The first question involves the positive and negative effects of using Smart

TV as an instructional material in improving academic performance, in this part, a Likert scale is

used with a rating scale of 1-4 wherein 4 stands for strongly agree, 3 stands for agree, 2 stands

for strongly disagree, and1 stands for disagree. Second part is how the teachers use Smart TV as

an instructional materials, in this part, a Likert scale is used with a rating scale of 1-4 wherein 4

stands for strongly agree, 3 stands for agree, 2 stands for disagree, and1 stands for strongly

disagree.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers visited NST Library, checked on books journals, articles, and thesis that

might contain that would support the problem. Also they browsed in the internet to gather

information related to the topic. Moreover, the researchers elicit the information needed in the

study through the use of the self-constructed questionnaires that will be answered by the

respondents. The researchers also make a letter for the respondents and for the teachers. The

letter will be serve as a permission letter to conduct a survey. The letter should be validate first

by the research adviser before conducting a survey.

The questionnaire was the main instrument in gathering data. The researchers conduct a

survey to gather the data needed to know the effects of using Smart TV as an instructional

material in improving academic performance of the selected grade 12 CHS and Animation

students of Nova Schola.

Statistical Treatment Data

1.) The Weight mean was used to determine the Effects of Using Smart TV as an

Instructional Material in Improving Academic Performance of the Selected Grade 12

CHS and Animation Students of Nova Schola. It is an average that takes into account the

proportional relevance of each components, rather than treating each component equally.

The interpretation was based on Likert Scale which was shown below. This was based on

the fair interval for four (4) categories:

SCORE LIMITS INTERPRETATIONS

3:45 – 4:00 Strongly Agree

2:45 – 3:44 Agree

1:45 – 2:44 Strongly Disagree

1:00 – 1:44 Disagree
