AIR-CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION SYSTEMS

Performance Task 2. Solve the following problems on an A4 sheet bond paper. Box only your final
answer. Any form of erasure/alteration is considered wrong.

1. An air-water vapor mixture at 138 kPaa, 43oC, and 50% RH is contained in a 1.4m3 tank. The
tank is cooled to 21 oC. Determine:
a. The mass of water condensed
b. The partial pressure of water vapor initially
c. The final mixture pressures
d. The heat transferred
2. Air enters a dryer at 21 oC and 25% RH and leaves at 66 oC and 50% RH. Determine the air flow
rate at 1 atmospheric pressure if 5.44 kg/hr of water is evaporated from a wet material in the
dryer.
3. At 10 oC DB and 50% RH, 0.20 m3/s of air is processed, and it leaves at 32 oC DB and 95% RH.
The pressure remains constant at 101 kPaa. Determine:
a. The heat supplied
b. The water supplied
4. An air-conditioner receives 0.23 kg/s of atmospheric air at 28 oC and 10% RH. Water at 20 oC is
sprayed into the air and heat is added and/or removed. The air exits at 16 oC DB and 70% RH.
Determine the heat flow and the water flow rate.
5. At a rate of 15 kg/s, air at 25 oC and 30% RH enters a device where heat is added and/or removed
and water at 20 oC is removed. The exit air DB temperature is 15 oC and the wet bulb temperature
is 5 oC. Determine the heat flow and the water flow rate.
