relative humidity of 75 percent. Determine (using perfect gas law
and psychometric equations, i.e., without using psychometric

(c) the enthalpy per unit mass of the dry air, and (d ) the masses of
the dry air and water vapor in the room. Ans. [ 97.62 kPa, 0.0152

4- Consider a house that contains air at 20°C and 75 percent

the air start condensing on the inner surfaces of the windows?
Ans. [15.4°C]

5- Air flows through a duct, past a specific location (point 1) at a

rate of 2,5 m3/s. At this location the dry bulb and wet bulb
temperatures are measured to be 30°C and 22°C, respectively.
a. Make use of the Psychrometric chart to find the enthalpy,
specific volume, humidity ratio, and relative humidity of the air at
point 1.
b. If the air at point 1 flows past a heating coil and is heated to a
temperature of 45°C, what is the rate of heat is transferred to the
air?
c. If instead, the air at point 1 passes by a cooling coil and is
cooled to 15°C dry bulb and 90% relative humidity, determine the
following:

i. Total rate of heat is withdrawn from the air

ii. The sensible heat transfer rate
iii. The sensible heat factor
iv. Mass flow rate of condensate (𝑚̇𝑊).

6- Hot dry air at 40°C and 10% relative humidity passes through an
evaporative cooler. Water is added as the air passes through a
wicks and the air exits at 27°C. Using the psychrometric chart
determine (a) the outlet relative humidity, (b) the amount of water
added, and (c) the lowest temperature that could be realized.
Ans. [45%, 5.4g-H20/kg-dry-air, 18.5°C]

7- Outside air at 35°C and 60% relative humidity is to be

conditioned by cooling and heating so as to bring the air to within
the comfort condition as shown in figure below. Using the
Psychrometric Chart plot the required air conditioning process and
estimate (a) the amount of moisture removed, (b) the heat
removed and (c) the amount of heat added. Ans. [11.5g-H20/kg-
dry-air,, qcool1-2 = 48kJ/kg-dry-air, , qheat 2-3 = 10kJ/kg-dry-air]

o
0.3 kg/s of moist air at 25 C and a humidity ratio of 0.018 kgw/kgda
in an adiabatic mixing chamber. After mixing, the mixed air is
o

30 percent relative humidity at a steady rate of 45 m3/min and to
condition it to 25°C and 60 percent relative humidity. The outdoor
air is first heated to 22°C in the heating section and then
