Pomes

A pome is a fleshy fruit consisting of an outer thickened flesh layer and a


central core with usually five seeds enclosed in a capsule.

Examples include; apples, pears, nashi and quince grown in spring


blossom and harvested on late summer through to late autumn.

DRUPE

A drupe is a type of fruit in which an outer fleshy surrounds a shell with a


seed inside.

Examples include; peaches, plums, cherries but walnuts, almonds and


pecans are also drupes.

BERRY
Berries are soft, plump, juicy and bright colored.

Examples include; strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, white currants


and black currants

AGGREGATE FRUITS

A type of fruit that develops from the pistils of a flower.

Examples are; custard apple ,strawberry and black berry.

LEGUMES

This are dehiscent fruits.

Examples include; tomato, pepino, breadfruit, capsicum Chinese, cocana,


Tasmanian kangaroo apple etc.

Capsules

Capsule is a dry fruit which splits to release the seeds.


Examples include; orchids.

NUTS

Nuts have one seed and a hard pericarp.

Examples include; almonds, cashew nuts, brazil nuts, hazel nuts,


macadamias, pecans, pine nuts and pistachios.

GRAINS

Grains have the fruit and seed joined closely together.

Examples include; barley, popcorn, oatmeal, millet, brown rice, buckwheat


and bulgur.

MUTIPLE FRUITS

Come from several and different flowers joined together.

Examples include; fig, pineapple, osage-orange and jackfruit.
