Assessment: PVC Hanger

Due date: November 19th, 2021.

Introduction: Challenge
You are required to design and produce a kitchen towel hanger for your
household by incorporating used PVC.

Context:
PVC is a high strength thermoplastic material commonly used in applications,
such as pipes, medical devices, wire, and cable insulation. It is the world's
third-most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer. However, proper
disposal of PVC has become a challenge in many countries contributing to the
bulk of solid waste, as PVC is not considered eco-friendly.

Content standards
The item should be:
1. Aesthetically pleasing.
2. Suitable for its use (as a towel hanger).
3. Safe to use.

Evidence of research:
To get information for this project, I used: Pinterest and google. I used these
sites to be able to get inspiration on how to create my product. The links for
these will be down below.

Possible solutions:
My solutions were between the two images shown below.

Solution 1: Solution 2:

kitchen towels.
Chosen solution and rationale:
After a few days of processing and deciding on which solution I would like to go
with. I finally decided to recreate solution 1, as I already had enough recycled
materials to make this item and as it was much easier and less bulky.

Development work (procedure)

Step by Step procedure/ Method:
1. Firstly, I gathered the suitable materials that can be used to make the PVC
towel hanger, which was a length of PVC, 4 elbows, 6 Tee’s and a can of blue
spray paint to add colour.

2. Secondly, I cut the PVC length into suitable sizes and then later proceeded to
piece them all together.

3. Then, I spray painted the final piece in blue spray paint to give my creation a
bit of colour.

4. Lastly, I left the final product outside to dry and after all these procedures
were completed, my towel hanger was finally done! :)
Testing/ critical assessment of solution:
I tested my final creation by placing kitchen towels on the racks to make sure
they won’t slip off. This testing went successfully, as shown in the image
below.

Evaluation/ modification of solution:

After testing whether the product was durable or not, it turned out perfectly.
This product was also functional, easy and very fun to make.
