motorized control valve(MCV)
Valve is adevice used for controlling the flow of air or fluid
Motorised valves are a type of electrically actuated valve
(others include solenoid valves and valves using electrically-
generated thermal effects).
A motorized valve is valve types that use an electric motor
to open or close its mechanism. This type of valve is
ideally suited to very large valve types or remote fluid
control applications such as aircraft agricultural irrigation
and automated fire suppression.
Most valve types are suited for motorized applications with
some commonly used types being gate, ball, and butterfly.
The motorized valve is also well suited to remote flow
control applications where system inputs involve
incremental valve operation. The internal fluid control
mechanisms of motorized valves are generally identical to
their manual counterparts; valve actuation inputs are the
only difference between the two.
Valves play an integral role in fluid flow circuits ranging
from the garden hose to hydroelectric power generation
systems. Valve actuation can, however, present logistic
problems when valves are too large to be practically
opened or closed by hand, are in remote, inaccessible
locations, or have to operate during periods when plants
or installations are unmanned. The answer to these
problems is the use of the motorized valve.
This type of valve functions in exactly the same fashion
as a manual variety with the exception of being actuated
by an electric motor. This type of valve can be remotely
opened or closed by an operator or by inputs from an
automated system.

Today use of MCV in large and small hydronic heating and
cooling systems is very common.

Examples of MCV

Two- and three-way motorized

control valves (MCV) with integrated linear actuators feature
precision control for critical temperature and steam control
applications, as well as systems that require electrical supply
voltage for flow control and flow isolation. Available in bronze
or stainless steel for on/off and modulating requirements, the
valves are manufactured with standard thread connections of 1/2
inch to 2 inches. Their self-calibration capabilities and
resistance to vibration help maintain consistent output
performance.

Applications:

• Feed water (DI water and heater systems)

• Boiler feed water isolation and boiler feed pump
• Drum vent
• Pump discharge
• Wastewater treatment
• Steam conditioning/condenser (condensate)

Solenoid Valve
is an electromechanical device in which the solenoid uses an
electric current to generate a magnetic field and thereby
operate a mechanism which regulates the opening of fluid flow
in a valve.
Solenoid valves differ in the characteristics of the electric
current they use, the strength of the magnetic field they
generate, the mechanism they use to regulate the fluid, and the
type and characteristics of fluid they control. The mechanism
varies from linear action, plunger-type actuators to pivoted-
armature actuators and rocker actuators. The valve can use a
two-port design to regulate a flow or use a three or more port
design to switch flows between ports. Multiple solenoid valves
can be placed together on a manifold.
Solenoid valves are the most frequently used control elements in
fluidics. Their tasks are to shut off, release, dose, distribute or
mix fluids. They are found in many application areas. Solenoids
offer fast and safe switching, high reliability, long service life,
good medium compatibility of the materials used, low control
power and compact design.

3
What is a Solenoid and Its Working
Principle
A solenoid is a very simple component that includes a coil of
wire that is covered around a core made out of a metal. When a
current is applied to the solenoid, it has the effect of assembling
a consistent magnetic field. Electricity changes to magnetism
then it changes to electricity and, therefore, these two forces are
united into one.

Types of Solenoid Valve

Direct-acting valves

These solenoids have a coil that magnetically opens the valve in

a direct action, causing the shaft and the seat of the valve to
shift. Direct-acting solenoid Valves use the energy produced by
the magnetic field of the solenoid to operate the valve. When the
electrical current is removed, a mechanical spring returns the
valve to its original position.

Direct-acting valves are utilized to prevent the development of

too much pressure in a device.

Two-way valves

This is the most common type of solenoid valve. Two-way

valves have two ports, which are used alternately to allow flow
as well as close it off. A two-way valve can be “normally open”
or “normally closed” in its operation. With a normally open
valve, the valve remains open until a current is applied to close
the valve. When the electrical power is suspended, the valve
automatically reopens to its normal state. A normally closed
solenoid valve remains closed until a power source causes it to
open.

Pilot-operated valves

In pilot-operated valves, the

plunger opens up the pilot opening while the pressure causes the
valve to open and close. In spite of the fact that pilot-operated
valves require less electrical energy to work, need to keep up
full power with a specific end goal to stay in an open state, and
they perform at a slower rate than direct-acting solenoids.
Direct-acting valves just need full power when opening the
valve, as they can hold their vacant position notwithstanding
when working on low power.

Difference between Motorized and

solenoid valve
The solenoid valve is operated by the magnet, just one
electromagnetic coil, and simple structure, low cost.

The motorized valve is operated by electric motor stem,

moving valve cartridge. Motorized valve is classified by shut
valve and control valve.
There are two working conditions of shut valve, which is full
open and full close. Control valve is attached with electrical
valve locator fit the valve in a position by closed loop
adjustment.

The usage of motorized valve and solenoid
valve:
Solenoid Valve: used for liquid and gas pipe open controlling.
Usually used for small size pipe.
Motorized Valve: used for liquid, gas and air system pipe
analog adjustment, controlled by AI. In the big size valve and
air system controller.
Solenoid Valve: only can be used as open-shut device, for
small size pipe, usually less than DN50 and lower pipe.
Motorized Valve: AI reaction signal, can be controlled by DO
or AO.

1、Switch Type:

Solenoid valve is operated by electromagnetic coil, open or

shut, time short.

The operation of motorized valve is usually the motor; the

time for open-shut can be adjusted.

2、Adaptable Environment

Solenoid valve is adapting to some special requirement, such

as leakage, special medium.

Motorized valve is usually adapted to adjustment.
