IV. PROCEDURES
A. Preparation Review students about energy, power and work
from the previous lesson
B. Motivational Question Is Electrical energy related to power?
C. Activity  Let the students identify the different
information found in the electric bill.
Show that, as the power ratings of appliances used
at home are higher and the time used is longer, the
more we pay in our electrical bill or the amount due
becomes higher.
 Let the students compute the electrical
energy consumption using the equation
Electrical Consumption (E ) = Power x time
 Give exercises in converting watts to KW, hr
to second, minutes to hr.

D. Analysis What will happen to the electrical energy

consumption if the power of appliances used at
home are at high rate? Ans. The energy
consumption will also increase
E. Abstraction The electrical energy consumption is related to the
equation E = Pt.
Where E is the electrical consumption ( kilowatt-
hour )
P is the power ( kilowatt )
Prepared by: Vicente B. Mongcopa
t is the time ( hour )

The fundamental difference between electrical

energy and electrical power is that electrical
energy represents the amount of work done that
causes electric current to flow through a circuit. As
against electrical power defines the rate at which
work (basically movement of charges) is done in
an electrical circuit
Energy is what makes change happen and can be
transferred form one object to another. ... Power is
the rate at which energy is transferred. It is
not energy but is often confused with energy. The
watt is the most commonly used unit of measure
for power. 1 watt = I Joule/second

F. Application Power consumption refers to the electrical energy

per unit time, supplied to operate something, such
as a home appliance. Power consumption is usually
measured in units of watts (W) or kilowatts (kW).
The energy used by equipment is always more than
the energy really needed.

G. Practical Applications of
Concepts and Skills in Practical Ways to reduce electrical
Daily Living energy consumption at home
1. Shutdown your computer. Computers
are some of the biggest energy users at
home or in office buildings. ...
2. Choose the right light. LED bulbs are
the most energy efficient lighting option.
3. Eliminate vampire power: unplug idle
electronics. ...
4. Use a power strip to reduce your plug
load. ...
5. Turn off the lights when not in use.

H. Generalization
The electrical energy consumption is related to the
power used and time in terms of the equation E =
Pt.
Prepared by: Vicente B. Mongcopa
Where E is the electrical consumption ( kilowatt-
hour )
P is the power ( kilowatt )
t is the time ( hour )

a. current and voltage b. Resistance and
current
c.. power and time d. power and voltage
2. What quantities do you need to calculate power ?
a. current and voltage b. Resistance and
current
c.. power and time d. power and voltage
3. What are the units for energy?

J. Additional activities for Let the students compute the amount payable in
application or their electrical bill given the price per kwh. Assume
remediation value of 15Ph pesos/kWh. Use the amount of kwh
(assignment) used from present and previous readings.
