1 General information:

Wire banner frame is to be installed to form support to advertising banner at

North Hanover Street Glasgow G2 1EH.
The Banner Frame Design comprises:
Banner Frame (BF) - Steel Cables connected with Eyelets and stainless steel studs to make and
overall frame, attached to existing building.
Banner – a PVC material, printed with advertisement, that wraps around the BF via Bungees and
Cable Ties through Eyelets. Both eyelets and PVC material are to be built to withstand loads,
and affixed, as stipulated in BFD. Current PVC material is stipulated in BF as 'B3124 Seemee
Supreme Mesh', any alternative to be agreed in advance, with prior consent.
Bungees – 12mm and/or 10mm bungee cords, designed to take those loads stipulated in the
BFD, which will give as a fail-safe in event of extreme wind.
Cable Ties – 12mm and/or 10mm bungge cords, designed to take loads stipulated in the
BDF, which will give as a fail - safe in the event of extreme wind.

2 Wind Loads:

Location: 60 North Hanover Street Glasgow G2 1EH

Grid Ref: NS593655
Max Height (Banner): 25.0m
Max Height (From ground): 22.0m

Cpe- = 1 (average suction Cpe)

Max design pressure = 0.976kN/m2

3 Wind Loadings on Banner: (Edge tubes)

Banner is to wrap around the additional banner frame as indicated within

the design drawing.

Wind loading acting on Banners: (Max size banner)

confirmed on site once BF is installed)
Area of Banner = 1250.0m2 (50.0m x 25.0m)

Total load = 1220.0kN

Banner is to be installed secured to the outer perimeter using

bungees at Max 300mm spacing's (min 250mm TBC by manufacturer of banner).

Total No. of Bungees: = 150.0m Perimeter

= 500 No. bungees

Max load per Bungee: = 2.44kN

12mm Bungee are to be used - Supplier of Bungee are to ensure the load capacity
of the Bungee is greater than the load stated.

Loading into Eyelets:

Loading in Eyelets is equal to loading in Bungees.

Banner manufacturers are to ensure that the eyelets are produced with
suitable capacity.

4 Banner fixings:

Banner is to be secured to the frame, additional fixings are to be installed along

the intermediate Eyelets of the banner forming anti-bellowing fixings.
These fixings are to be installed loosely (not tensioned).

5 Load Transfer into anchors:

Banner is to be installed using eyelets with COEUR BOLTS drilled into the existing
building façade.

Min No. of fixings to the structure = 72.00 No. anchors

( Fixings to the perimeter of banner)

Load from banner into anchors = 1220.0kN / 72no

= 17.0kN

SWL of Coeur bolts = 18.0kN Appendix B

18.0kN > 17.0kN OK

6 Steel Cable :

8mm Steel cable is to be installed between anchors.

Steel Cable is to be tensioned using tensioner units.

Max tensile capacity of 6mm Steel cable = 4.09kN Appendix C

Max tension load to be placed in to steel cables = 4.0kN

4.09kN > 4.0kN OK

Shear Check:

Number of anchors (per corners) = 1

Max shear load per anchor = 4.0kN

Allowable shear load per anchor = 25.0kN Appendix B

25.0kN > 4.0kN OK

7 Combined shear and tension check on bolts:

Fs + FT < 1.2
Ps PT

Where

Fs = 4.00 kN FT = 17.00 kN

Ps = 25.00 kN PT = 18.00 kN

=> 4.00 + 17.00 < 1.2

25.00 18.00

=> 1.10 < 1.20

Therefore bolts are ok in combined shear and tension

8 Safety fixings:

Secure fixings should be made to the top edge of the banner.

Heavy Duty fixings are suggested which support the self weight of the
banner should perimeter bungees fail under extreme wind loadings.

Self weight of PVC = 510 g/m2

Banner area = 1250.00 m2

= 637.50 kg

Secure fixings to be installed every bay

No. of secure connections = 25 No. ties

Self weight load per fixing = 25.50 kg

= 0.26 kN

Allowable shear per bolt = 25.00 kN Appendix B

25.00 kN > 0.26 kN OK

Suitable Caribiner & Strop are to be sourced and installed as detailed in the
design drawing.

9 Summary:

All loads indicated should be used to ensure all banner fixing method use
suitable components with the load bearing capacity indicated.

All bungee, fixings and banner details are to be confirmed by

supplier / manufacturers.

Manufacturers and suppliers of all components are to ensure they

agree with the details and installation assumptions shown.
