EE137 – A19
2. Lightning Arrester
= A Lightning Arrester is a protective equipment that protects electrical equipment from high
voltage surges caused by lightning strikes. They are usually installed at the top of
transmission poles and buildings and provide an easy path for the surge voltage from
lightning to flow to ground.
3. Air Break Switches / Isolator
= An “air break switch’ is a switchgear device that uses air as the dielectric. Air Break
Switches (ABS) are widely installed throughout distribution networks for use as both
isolation or switching points.
4. Insulator
= Insulators are mainly used in applications where the prevention of the flow of electric
charges is required. These materials work as effective non-conductors since they lack
movable electric charges required to propagate electric current. Electrical insulators are used
mainly as parts of electrical equipment.
5. Busbar
= An electrical bus bar is defined as a conductor or a group of conductor used for collecting
electric power from the incoming feeders and distributes them to the outgoing feeders. In
other words, it is a type of electrical junction in which all the incoming and outgoing
electrical current meets.
6. Capacitor Bank
= A capacitor bank is a physical group of several capacitors that are of the common
specifications are connected in series or parallel with each other to form a capacitor bank that
store electrical energy.
7. Earthing
= Earthing is used to protect you from an electric shock. It does this by providing a path (a
protective conductor) for a fault current to flow to earth. It also causes the protective device
(either a circuit-breaker or fuse) to switch off the electric current to the circuit that has the
fault.
8. Distribution Panel Board
= A panelboard is a component of an electrical distribution system which divides an electrical
power feed into branch circuits, while providing a protective circuit breaker or fuse for each
circuit, in a common enclosure.
9. Fuse
= A fuse is an electrical safety device that operates to provide overcurrent protection of an
electrical circuit. Its essential component is a metal wire or strip that melts when too much
current flows through it, thereby stopping or interrupting the current.
10. Fencing
= An electric fence is a barrier designed to allow an electric current to pass through it. Because it
intends to deliver a high voltage shock to whoever touches it, it serves as an effective security
measure against thieves and trespassers.
11. Relay
= Relays are electrically operated switches that open and close the circuits by receiving electrical
signals from outside sources.
