Class description (age/grade/level?):

2n grade (7 years old)

Timetable fit (Embedded in what other activities?:what comes before and after this
lesson? Is is part of a didactic sequence?):
(Before of this lesson)
- First session:
At the first session, the teacher will show pupils a song that talks about some of the
savannah animals and their sounds and then, children will interpret the different
savannah animals in front of the class and they will have to guess what animal is.
- Second session:
In this session, students will be grouped into small groups to work on a specific
animal, so that each group will be “experts” of one animal. Also, in this second
session pupils will create their own mask, which will demonstrate that they have
managed to be an animal expert.
- Third session:
In this session, we will make new groups with one student from each expert group.
The pupils will make a representation with all the animals from the members of the
group.

(This lesson)
- Fourth session:

At the fourth session, the children will create their “Guess who?” set in the animals
of the savannah. The animals that will appear in this game are: cheetah, lion,
zebra, giraffe, elephant, hippo, rhino, hyena and flamingo. And then play it in the
rest of the class.

(After this lesson)

- Fifth session:
In this session, the students will make a mural as a final product. There, they
should represent all the animals they've studied during the lesson so far. This
activity will also be in groups.
- Last session:
With the same groups of the last session, they will make a presentation with visual
support (powerpoint, the mural…) and explain what they have learned during the
didactic unit.

Materials (teacher and students material):

- Flashcards of the animals.
- Cardboard, glue, tape, colors and the pictures (for every board)

Main Aims / Learning Outcomes::

Aims:
- Recognize characteristic elements of the savannah, especially animals.
- Build meaningful words from the letters of other words they recognize.
- Incorporate words into a text that are coherent with the context.
- Work cooperatively with other classmates.

Learning outcomes:

- At the end of the fourth session the students will be able to describe 3 animals and
guess 3 animals without seeing the photo.

Assessment: The assessment is going to be a checklist with 10 different items that they
have to say in the final presentations of their mural.

Anticipated problems (what challenges or issues do you think you might have?):
- Confuse animals of the savannah with other types of animals (like animals of the
jungle).
- At the session of our microteaching they can not remember the exact names of the
animals.
-

Possible solutions (how could you avoid these challenges or issues?):

- Make a list of outsiders and mark it in a red color to differentiate with the list of
savannah animals.
-

STAGE/ DESCRIPTION INTERA TIMING

STAGE CTION
AIM

Learn Recording activity:

about... Flashing cards. T-SS 5 mins
One student made a little interpretation of some of the
animals. And the others have to guess what animal is.

(In our session we will skip this game, and just make a
little remember)

Create the game: T-SS 10 -15

Following the instructions of the teacher, the pupils are mins
going to make the game board of Guess Whou, about
the animals we have studied.

SS-SS 10 mins
Let’s play: At the end of the session they will be able to (Till the
play, depending on how long it took them to create the end)
board

Additional possibilities (say how you would extend the class):

We think that we don't need more extra possibilities because the last activity can be
extended, but in case we need it, we think that still playing with the flashcards can be a
good idea.

Justification of topic/activities
For this topic, we have chosen to work based on the context of the savannah. Nature is an
aspect that tends to be interesting to students, that they usually know, and takes their
attention. Animals are one of the most significant elements of the natural environment for
the child, being an element to play, observation and experience. Most of the animals we
work on this activity are animals that are familiar to them in their first language, so it will be
easier for them to make connections in English.

Also in this proposal, we want to work with the ETL methodology, with activities that
include the fourth skills; talking, reading, writing and listening.
