ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Without the aid of the people listed below, my success would not have been

possible.

They have assisted me in several ways. I want to express my appreciation to each

and every one of you on behalf of our omnipotent God, who has always directed and

illuminated my path while I have studied, without him, I am powerless in this world.

I would like to thank Prof. Luzviminda M. Mendiola, head of the THM department,

for her support and for allowing me to complete my internship at the Playa Tropical Resort.

To Ms. Kathleen Kay C. Tomas, OJT coordinator of Mariano Marcos State University,

thank you for always being there for us when we had questions or problems.

To Sir Mark Vincent Gamet the manager of Playa Tropical Resort your acceptance of

me being one of the OJT, is a great help in me.

To all employees of Playa Tropical Resort Hotel, thank you for your goodness,

guidance and teachings that had been a great help in my journey.

I would specially thank my beloved parents, whose struggles to educate me despite

their best efforts have not come to an end, as some of us might be tempted to believe. As I

will sooner or later discover, education is a lifetime process.

Thank you so much to my special someone who has always been there for me and

inspired me.

I’m deeply appreciative of your unwavering support for me.

Practicum Experience:
On-the-job training is one of the most valuable experiences for a student like myself. Being

in this field is challenging, but it is also fascinating. They teach me how to interact with

visitors and, in particular, how to manage my emotions. I'm grateful for their assistance in

preparing me for life in the real world. Being assigned to Playa Tropical Resort Hotel made

me nervous and uneasy because Playa Tropical Resort Hotel is one of the most visited hotels

in Ilocos Norte, but it also made me excited because I can finally demonstrate my skills and

knowledge from our school, Mariano Marcos State University. Playa Tropical Resort Hotel

taught me a lot of things. First, in the food and beverage department, I learned how to

properly serve using trays, proper table set up, making drinks like juices, coffees, and

cocktails, and, most importantly, how to handle guest complaints because I am a bit short-

tempered person. Second, being a trainee at the kitchen department made me nervous and

scared, even though I have a lot of experience cooking because I've been a working student

since I was 17 years old. The kitchen department showed me that being a part of the kitchen

is more than just cooking. The kitchen department taught me how to maintain food

quality, how to use various equipment properly and always clear your area before you leave.

It's a lot of fun working in the housekeeping department because you get to enter the

luxurious rooms and clean them. As a hospitality management practitioner, this is a fantastic

opportunity And at Front office department I learned the most important skills which is how

to properly entertain guest complains.

Impressions and Observations:

Working on a real job at Playa Tropical Resort and Hotel was the best experience I've ever

had because they treat us OJTs like genuine employees and never look down on us. My

impressions of Playa Tropical are that they are understaffed, despite their excellent skills.

They treat all guests equally, even if the guest is shouting and asking for the manager. I really

admire their tenacity, patience, and dedication to their work. They also want to learn about

the culture of the incoming guest in order to avoid serving them the wrong food, which I

thought was very nice of them, they give their all to whoever the guest is. The employees

are intimidating at first, but once you get to know them, you will realize that they only want

to slightly intimidate us to let us know that we did not come here to pay, but to train and be

prepared for our future.

Highlights:
The event known as "Malaya sa Playa" was one of the most memorable experiences I had

during my internship at Playa Tropical Resort Hotel, where I was able to demonstrate my

Page 7 of 26 Pages

College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy

abilities and demonstrate what I had learned. Because I was able to put what I had learned

during my four years of study at Mariano Marcos State University into practice, this event

put my abilities and skills as a hospitality management practicioner to the test. I didn't even

feel tired during this event, which made me feel like I was working in my dream job. I am

grateful that they also chose me to be a member of the production staff. For me, that was a

fulfilling period of my on-the-job training experience. The most memorable moment of my

on-the-job training was when they chose me as a member of the production staff. At the

time, I didn't think I deserved the job, but the staff told me that I had the skills and that I just

needed to be more confident. What I learned throughout my on-the-job training was the

significance of attitude.

Problems Encountered:
The majority of the issues I ran into during my on-the-job training at Playa Tropical Resort

and Hotel were guest complaints. The worst issue I ran into involved a guest who was

complaining about their water supply. When I asked them what appeared to be the issue,

they yelled at me and demanded to know where the manager was, so hopefully the

manager overheard us and intervened.Things went down smoothly, The manager then

approached me, smiling, and told me to keep up the good work and don’t let that bother me

because its all part of the job.

Recommendations:

During my on-the-job training, I noticed that only the kitchen and food and beverage

departments received free meals, which created a divide among employees. I recommend

Page 8 of 26 Pages

that all employees, particularly the PA department, receive the same treatment.

ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT/JOURNAL

FNB

Week 1 is a slow week for us because Playa Tropical Resort is still healing from the impacts

of Covid 19. We do have some guests, but not many, and while we are waiting for a guest,

they are teaching us the fundamental skills we need to become proficient in this area.

Week 2 presents a significant challenge for me because a guest will unexpectedly arrive at

Playa Tropical Resort for 3 days and 2 nights. I worry that I'm not prepared, but thank God I

survive and develop skills that even I find hard to believe. That day, I came to believe that

"experience is the best teacher."

KITCHEN

They teach us the necessary skills in cooking, plating, and how to keep the kitchen clean

throughout our first week in the kitchen, which goes smoothly and easily. Initially, I'm very

self-conscious because I can't think of the exact words to use when speaking with the chef

and other staff members. I initially found the kitchen to be boring for the first two days, but

Page 14 of 26 Pages
MARIANO MARCOS STATE UNIVERSITY
College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy

after we prepared a meal for the incoming guest, I thought it was simple until we had to

wash the dishes. Since then I understood that working in the kitchen is no joke.

The second week at this department is when I finally understood that I belonged in the

kitchen. I started to smell and taste unusual spices, grew close to the chef, and what I really

liked about them is that they were always upbeat. Even if you make a mistake, they'll just

tell you it's okay and to try again later. Additionally, they allowed me to prepare meals for

the group while teaching us about ingredient usage guidelines and the shelf life of our

frozen meats.

FRONT OFFICE

During my first week working in the front desk, Sir Mark Vincent Gamet taught me the

fundamentals of taking calls and made us memorize the room rates and specials that were

running at the time. Only a small number of visitors call, and I only take a small number of

requests. So, on my fourth day at the front desk, I received my first complaint and didn't

know what to do, so I asked a front desk employee for assistance, and they handled it well.

After that conversation, one of the staff members spoke with me and instructed me on how

to properly address a complaint. After that, I overcame my dread of picking up the phone

and performed a butler duty, helping the guest to their room.

My front desk duties went smoothly during week 2 however, Playa Tropical Resort's

Octoberfest was postponed from November 4 to 5 due to weather concerns. I was picked as

a member of the production staff, and among other things, we escorted the models,

assisted with guest registration, and helped the manager with her paperwork. The Playa

Tropical Resort gave me the opportunity to grow and learn, which was a wonderful

experience for me as a practitioner of hospitality management. Before I move a department

I realized that being a front desk officer requires a lot of patience and to discuss the problem

not to discuss with the complainant.

HOUSE KEEPING

Week 1 of housekeeping is quite difficult for me because I have a dustmite allergy, but I get

over it in just two days. The service members are really friendly and help us learn the

fundamentals, such as how to fold and arrange our linens properly. I initially believed my

favorite area during my first four weeks of on-the-job training was the kitchen, but after

receiving tips from guests at their requests, I began to enjoy my housekeeping training.

In my second week of housekeeping, I learned all the fundamental and advanced

techniques. They allowed me to make up beds on my own and granted requests from

Page 16 of 26 Pages

guests. I also assisted visitors with their luggage and put up extra beds as needed. The

housekeeping supervisor commended me for my work and gave me his trust on doing the

task. Housekeeping is a department that I absolutely enjoy.
