EXEMPLAR TEACHER CHARO M. GARCIA CODE 008

GRADE LEVEL: 8
GRADING PERIOD: FIRST
CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of factors of polynomials, rational
algebraic expression, linear equations, and linear inequalities in two variables, systems of linear equations and
inequalities in two variables.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learner is able to formulate real life problems, involving factors of polynomials,
rational algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities in two variables, systems of linear equations
and inequalities and linear functions and solve these problems accurately using a variety of strategies.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
Determine the factors of a polynomial by grouping. M8AL-Ia-b-1
Illustrate rational algebraic expressions. M8AL-Ic-1
Define rational algebraic expressions. M8AL-Ic-1
TOPIC: FACTORING BY GROUPING
RATIONAL ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS
NUMBER OF DAYS NEEDED: 4 DAYS

I. ACTIVITY
A. WE HAVE!!!!

B. MATCH IT TO ME
II. ANALYSIS AND ABSTRACTION
G. FACTORING BY GROUPING
ax + ay + cx + cy = (ax + cx) (ay + cy)
= x(a + c) + y(a + c)
= (a + c) (x + y)
Factoring by grouping can be facilitated by grouping together terms that have common factors, then factor.

Examples
Factor each completely.
1. 8mt – 12at – 10mh + 15ah
2. 18lv + 6le + 240v + 80e
3. m2 – 4m + mn – 4n
4. 12a3 – 9a2 + 20a – 15

RATIONAL ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION – is a ratio of two polynomials provided that the denominator is not
P
equal to zero. In symbols; , where P and Q are polynomials and Q ≠ 0.
