1. INTRODUCTION
This calculation report develops the analysis and design of the pluvial drainage system for the project called
“02 Level Office Construction” of Cusco International Airport (AICC).
1.1. GOAL
- Calculate the dimensions of the gutter and the diameter of the storm drainage networks.

2. DESIGN BACKGROUND

2.1. REGULATIONS / RULES

The following regulations and/or standards are considered:
 CE.040 Urban storm drainage.
3. CALCULATION BASIS

The calculation of the storm drainage system for this building is carried out according to the provisions
of RNE CE.040 Urban Storm Drainage, IILA – SENAMHI – MODIFIED UNI method.
3.1.1. ESTIMATION OF THE RETURN PERIOD IN YEARS
The return period is the average time in years, in which the value of the peak flow or precipitation, is
equaled or exceeded once every "t" years. Due to the scope of this project and based on the terms of
reference of the project, a flood of 100 years of return period is recommended.
3.1.2. ESTIMATION OF THE RUNOFF COEFFICIENT
The runoff coefficient is estimated according to parameters provided by the CE.040 Urban Storm
Drainage standard, as shown below:

For a return period of 100 years and considering that the surface is a ceiling, the value of 0.97 is adopted
as the runoff coefficient.

3.1.3. ESTIMATION OF CONCENTRATION TIME

For the estimation of the concentration time, table 2 Summary of the concentration time equations will
be used, according to the RNE, CE.040 URBAN RAINFALL DRAINAGE.

The total length of the surface flow from the furthest point of the drainage area to the discharge point
is taken into account through the pluvial drainage pillar according to its location on the plans, and the
slope of the coverage.

runoff coefficient C= 0.97

surface flow length L= 16.00 m
surface slope S= 0.15 m/m

concentration time T= 0.69 hours

3.1.4. ESTIMATION OF RAINFALL INTENSITY

Formula IILA - SENAMHI - UNI Modified is used, as indicated by the RNE.

According to figure 01 pluviometric zones and subzones indicated in the national building regulations
of the "Study of the hydrology of Peru - Annexes", the project is located in ZONE 123 AND
SUBZONE123

Next, the initial calculation parameters are estimated:

Parameter to determine P24T Eg= 24

b= 0.40
return time T= 100
Duration of daily rain tg= 15.6
Duration parameter (dimensionless) n 0.35

frequency parameter Kg= 0.55

Intensity parameter (mm) a= 11.00

Replacing the initial design parameters in the MODIFIED IILA-SENAMHI-UNI formula, the rain
intensity value is estimated in mm/hour, as shown below:

The hydrological stations of URUBAMBA, ANTA ANCACHURO and CHITAPAMPA are located
in the project area, which recorded a maximum rainfall of 54.30 mm/day in 2011, the value obtained
by the IILA SENAMHI method is approximate to the value recorded in the hydrological station

3.2. SIZING OF STORM DRAINAGE CHANNELS

To size the gutters, we first proceeded to determine the areas of influence of the roofs of the different
buildings, taking as a reference that gutters will be used approximately every 15 m; the area of influence
will be the most unfavorable, based on this the width and depth of the gutters are determined.

Using the rational method according to the CE.040 Standard, the maximum flows in each drainage area
are determined, as indicated by the following formula.

3.2.1. PROVISIONAL OFFICE BUILDING

The approximate area of the roof of the Building is approximately 920 m2, which is divided into 14
areas of influence according to Image No. 5:

After determining the area of influence of the platform, the flow rate that will pass through each gutter
was determined.

Based on the drainage area with the largest area (roof S2), with an area of 69.63 m2, the H-Channels
program is used to calculate the initial width and height of the projected gutter. It is worth mentioning
that to perform the hydraulic calculation, the commercial dimensions of prefabricated metal gutters are
taken into account, as shown below.

For commercial gutter widths of 190 mm, it corresponds to braces according to the following table:

S13 ceiling 61.85 0.366 7.80 100.00
S14 ceiling 58.10 0.344 7.40 100.00
As can be seen in the table above, the minimum height for the largest drainage area (Roof S2) is 8.30
mm, so it is proposed to consider a gutter height of 100 mm as it is commercial in the market.

3.3. ROOF RAIN DRAINAGE COLLECTION NETWORK

The storm drainage system on the roof basically works by gravity. To this end, gutters have been
designed with storm drains distributed according to the tributary area, with a minimum projected slope
of 1.0% for the gutter in order to allow the discharge of storm drainage to the existing platform, as
indicated in the national regulation of buildings CE.040.

3.4. SIZING OF STORM DRAIN PIPES

SANITARY
Project of the New International Airport of CALCULATION REPORT
Chinchero-Cusco (AICC) – RAIN DRAINAGE
Chinchero Nativity Consortium - CNCH Contract No.: SBCC 003-
2020-MTC/PMO

To size the diameter of the pipes, the contributing flow of each roof in each area is known, based on
the storm drainage flow, the H-Canales program is used to calculate the diameter of the storm drainage
pipe.

3.4.1. PROVISIONAL OFFICE BUILDING

The highest flow contributing to the ceiling of sector 02 is known to be 0.412 lt/sec. Depending on the
storm drainage flow for approximately 70 m2, the H-Canales program is used to calculate the diameter
of the storm drainage pipe.

For a 3” pipe diameter with an internal diameter of 76 mm, a water depth of 21.5 mm corresponds,
which represents a water depth of 28% of the diameter of the pipe.

4. CONCLUSIONS

 For buildings, the following storm drainage system is generally required:

o Metal gutters of 0.19m width and minimum height of 0.10m, the slope of the gutter will be
1.00%.
o The pluvial drainage discharge pipe of each gutter will be 3” in diameter and will evacuate to
the platform.
