The graph below showed relative price changes for fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and

sweets, and carbonated drinks between 1978 and 2009.


Overall, all the food items in the1979-1983 period had the same rate of price change. While
the price of fresh fruits and vegetables v, the price of carbonated drinks was lowest during the
period.
From 1979 to 1985 , all three items remained almost stable at 50 – 100 percent, except a slight
dip and increased at about 90 % and over 100% respectively. Then was fresh fruits and
vegetables topped the list of most price change with 330 %, far exceeding consumer-price
index which were over 150 %. Compared with fresh fruits and vegetables, the price change of
consumer-price index and sugar and sweets were very pretty modest, varying from 1985 to
2009. At the same time, the price of sugar and sweets experienced a slow growth more than
100 % starting from 1985. The change of price for carbonated drinks was undergo some
fluctuations between 1987 and 2009, before reaching a peak at over 100% in 2009.
