ACTIVITY ________

FALLING FOR G

I- Objectives: 1. _______________________________________________________________
2. _______________________________________________________________
II- Problem: __________________________________________________________________
III- Hypothesis: ________________________________________________________________
IV- Materials:

Option A:
 Digital Camera with video editor (kinemaster)
 Tool kit for free falling activity (small ball, coupon bond paste together
to form 6 meters in length, with visible label for 0m, 1m, 2m, 3m, 4m
5m and 6m)

V- Procedure:
1. Look for a wall or a building with second floor. Then, set-up the free falling tool kit. Paste the
marker on the wall or on the pillar as shown in the figure below.

2. Hold the ball on the marker at zero. Then aim your five (5) video camera to the whole set-up
in such a way that the whole paper and markings are visible in the cam. Start video recording
then release the ball and stop recording after the ball struck the floor.
3. Using a video editor (kinemaster) cut the recorded video from the time the ball is about to fall
from the 0-meter mark.

4. Determine the time of the fall of the ball from 0cm to 20 cm by moving the cursor of the video
until the bottom part of the ball touches the line of 20cm. Look at the screen of the editor, check
the total time of the clip from 0 cm to 20cm. The corresponding time is the time the ball
displacement from 0 cm to 20cm.

5. Repeat procedure 3-4 but this time use the displacement from 2m to 6m to duration of fall for the
aforementioned
displacements.

6. The results of the edited video for camera 1-5 will be the trial 1-5, respectively. Record the
computed data in the data table of this activity sheet.

7. Plot the graph d vs t2 and 2d vs t, then determine the slope each graph. You may use an excel in
doing this.
