TAKE HOME QUIZ NO. 1 EM 115

1. The two situations are not new to me. Language discrimination knows no race. As long

as you are the minority, you are the prey. I remember my students who was from Visayan

region. Since their accent differs from the majority, their classmates make fun of it. You

will hear insulting giggles from the students. It is saddening that other students act that

way.

2. Ethnological roots of the students greatly affect the language orientation of the students.

As a teacher, it is my duty to have my students respect individual differences. Values

comes first. I believe that setting a conducive atmosphere of learning for everyone sets as

the launch pad in teaching speaking. As a teacher in speaking, it is my responsibility to

teach my students correct production of sounds. It is my duty to introduce them the

correct pronunciation of the words without making them feel that their ethnological

access is of less important than the lingua franca.

3. The goals of teaching sounds and pronunciation based on the given situations are as

follow:

 Making sure that students pronounce the words correctly and make correct sentences.

 Teaching the social and cultural rules appropriate in each communicative situation.

 Being a confident, articulate & perceptive speaker.
