Nx Witness Integration
The Nx Witness Video Service provides a seamless integration between Protege GX and an Nx Witness DVR
system, enabling you to control cameras and view live and historical video footage from a single easy to use
interface.
Nx Witness cameras can be linked to doors, inputs, areas, and outputs, allowing you to retrieve footage based
on any change of status, such as when a PIR is triggered or a door is opened. An optional automatic popup can
be enabled, displaying a live video stream on any door event, allowing you to see when someone is at the door
or when a door has been forced open.
The included high level interface (HLI) enables the use of the PTZ triggers and alarm interfaces back to the DVR,
providing full bi-directional exchange of information.
The following instructions outline how to install the Nx Witness Video Service and configure the DVR, cameras,
and doors within Protege GX.

Feature Support
This integration enables you to:
 View live video footage from programmed cameras
 View historic and archived video footage
 Embed cameras into a status page
 Link a camera to a door, an input, an area, or any record using the filter and camera assignment
 View live or archived video footage directly from an event associated with a camera
 Launch a camera view window when a specific event occurs
 View Motion Detected, and Camera Input events within Protege GX
 Send PTZ pre-set commands to the Nx Witness system in response to a Protege GX event filter.

Prerequisites
This integration requires:
 An operational Protege GX system (with software version 4.2.228.2 or higher)
 The Protege GX Nx Witness Video Service (version 1.0.0.8 or higher)
 .NET Framework 4.6.1 or above
 An operational Nx Witness VMS system
Please refer to the ICT website (https://www.ict.co/DVR-NVR-Systems) for a list of supported models.
The relevant number of Protege GX camera licenses and an HLI license (if required).

Licensing Requirements
The base Protege GX license includes unlimited number of DVRs, the HLI and one camera. If additional
cameras are required, further camera licenses can be purchased in blocks of 10 or blocks of 50.
The camera license covers the video to Protege GX component. HLI enables bi-directional communication
between Protege GX and the DVR system. Note that this is separate to the live and archived video display
which is covered with a camera license.

Time Settings
DVR integrations rely on the time being accurately configured for both the hardware and the operating systems
being used on site.
To ensure that the system is keeping precise time, all devices should be set to synchronize with the same NTP
time server. NTP servers work by sending accurate time information periodically to the system. Many corporate
organizations have these running on their network and you can simply enter the IP address of the NTP Server,
although any public NTP server can be used. Finding an NTP server relevant to your region is usually as simple
as a quick web search.

Programming Steps
Adding the DVR
1. From the main menu, navigate to Monitoring | Setup | DVRs.
2. Add a DVR record and enter the required options:
 Enter the IP Address of the Nx Witness DVR server.
 Enter the DVR Port of the Nx Witness DVR server.
 Set the DVR Type to Custom.
 Set the Service Port that was configured in the NX Witness Video Service installation. This option is only
visible once the DVR Type is set to Custom.
Note: the Service Port must be defined for the integration to work correctly.
3. Enable the Monitor Events from this DVR/NVR option to start logging HLI events from the DVR.
 The operator can then right click the event and select the camera to view the footage archived at the
time the event was logged. Note that for camera motion events, the Monitor Events option must also be
selected in the camera settings.
4. If authentication is required, enable Login Required and enter the Username and Password required to
access the DVR.

Adding the Camera(s)

Once the DVR has been configured, you can add a record for each of the installed cameras enabling you to
view live and historical (archived) video feeds directly from a status page, floor plan, or event window.
1. From the main menu, navigate to Monitoring | Setup } | Cameras.
2. Add a new camera.
3. Set the Type to DVR and select the DVR you created earlier.
4. Select the [...] button to open the Select Camera window.
5. Highlight the camera you want to use and click Select.
6. Set the required Display options:
 Show Sidebar Controls in Status Page: When enabled, displays playback controls when the camera
feed is used in a status page.
 Stretch Image: When enabled, the aspect ratio adjusts with the screen to show the full image.
 Floor Plan: Defines the floor plan that is associated with the camera.
7. Enable the Monitor Events option if you wish to log events from the DVR.
This setting is used in conjunction with the Monitor Events from this DVR option of the DVR record and
enables certain camera events to be logged from the DVR/NVR. The operator can then right click the event
and select the camera to view the footage archived from the time the event was logged.

Linking a Camera to a Door
Linking a camera to a door enables you to view a live or archived feed by right clicking a door record or any
associated door event. Cameras can also be linked to inputs, outputs, or areas, allowing you to track any status
changes, such as when a PIR is triggered or an area is disarmed, or whenever specific events occur (using
event filters and the actions).

Viewing Camera Events within Protege GX
Cameras can be linked to doors, inputs, outputs, or areas. Right-clicking these items from a status list or
programming window opens a menu with manual control options. For example, right-clicking a door provides
options to lock/unlock or display a live camera view.
If an event has a camera associated, a small yellow camera icon appears to the left of an event.
Right-clicking the event, enables you to view the archived footage for the camera at the time the event was
logged.
