Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the imminent threat climate change

poses to our country, to our people and the future of our children. To be more
specific, I am writing to discuss the problem of global warming and suggest
measures that could be taken to tackle it.

Global warming refers to the gradual rise in the overall temperature of the
atmosphere of the Earth. This is extremely harmful to the earth as well as
humans. It is quite challenging to control global warming; however, it is not an
impossible task.

The main reason why action should immediately be sought is that, if left
unchecked, it can exacerbate, as we are already seeing, current threats such as
food and water scarcity, which can lead to conflict. Doing nothing will end up
costing us a lot more than if we take actions now that will lead to more jobs,
greater prosperity, and better lives for all while reducing green- house gas
emissions and building climate resilience. So, it is a necessity to take measures
now.

Nevertheless, climate change is not a problem that governments can solve

alone; we need collaboration across regional governments, businesses, and
communities as well. As Greta Thunberg said: “Together and united, we are
unstoppable

Undoubtedly, the effects of global warming are detrimental. One of its dire
consequences is that glaciers have shrunk and ice on rivers and lakes are
breaking. Also, the extinction rates are noticeably higher. Lastly, global
warming has caused stronger hurricanes and severe heat waves and longer
growing seasons for crops. These are only some effects of climate change; just
imagine what else is going to happen if we don't change our ways soon.  (Stick
to 2 or 3 and explain/justify)

Luckily, however, there are many solutions to climate change that all of the
human population can take charge in. First, we can boost energy efficiency.
WHY? Next, we can phase out fossil fuel electricity (NOT JUST ELECTRICITY).
Then, we could develop and deploy new low-carbon and zero-carbon
technologies. For instance?? We can also rev up renewables and eliminate the
burning of coal, oil, and eventually natural gas. We need to stop deforestation
to help fix the climate change. Lastly we can unplug (Cut down electricity use),
and walk or ride your bike more.
I understand that focusing on climate change is just one of the many issues we
need to address during these challenging times. However, we cannot wait until
tomorrow. We must take immediate action now to deal with the daunting
issues that climate change poses. If everyone did at least one of these we could
see a change in climate change. I hope you will take my suggestions and
thoughts into consideration.

Yours truly,
Elena
