CHARGING SYSTEM

The charging system provides the electricity

that powers the starter motor and runs
electrical accessories, such as lights, audio
system, air conditioner, window defroster
and other components. Its main parts are
the battery, alternator and voltage
regulator.

FUNCTION OF CHARGING SYSTEM

Charging systems deliver electrical energy

to power your vehicle while it's running and
sustains the battery's charge. Your vehicle's
charging system consists of three parts: the
battery, the alternator, and the voltage
regulator. The battery supplies the
necessary electrical power to start your
engine.

CHARGING SYSTEM PARTS

1.ALTERNATOR
converts mechanical energy to electrical
energy with an alternating current. The
stator and rotor inside the alternator work
as magnets and rotate to generate the
alternating current. Then the alternating
current(AC) is transformed into a direct
current(DC) that charges the battery.

2.THE BATTERY
battery is a device that stores chemical
energy and converts it to electrical energy.
The chemical reactions in a battery involve
the flow of electrons from one material
(electrode) to another, through an external
circuit. The flow of electrons provides an
electric current that can be used

3.VOLTAGE REGULATOR
voltage regulator is a system designed to
automatically maintain a constant voltage.
A voltage regulator may use a simple feed-
forward design or may include negative
feedback. It may electromechanical
mechanism, or electronic components.
4.FUSE AND FUSIBLE LINKS

A fusible link is a mechanical or electrical

safety device. They are used in fire sprinkler
heads to activate the sprinkler in the
presence of heat. They are used in
automobile electrical systems as a fuse.

5.WIRE
Wires are used for establishing electrical
conductivity between two devices of an
electrical circuit. They possess negligible
resistance to the passage of current.

6.ANCESSORY FUSE BLOCK

Fuse block accessories are components for
mounting, monitoring, and modifying fuse
blocks. They're used for applications such as
installing fuse blocks, adding or activating
an indicator that signals when fuses have
blown, and preventing installation of the
wrong size fuse.
7.CABLE HARNESS

A wire harness, often referred to as a cable

harness or wiring assembly, is a systematic
and integrated arrangement of cables
within an insulated material. The purpose of
the assembly is to transmit signal or
electrical power.

8.ROTOR

Rotors are the moving part in an Alternator

that have permanent magnets that move
around the Stator's iron plates to generate
an Alternating Current (AC). Rotors require
existing motion tofunction, so only once the
engine or turbine is already running will a
Rotor work with a Stator to provide a
charge.

9.BATTERY CABLE
The battery cables connect your car's
battery to its computer, ignition, lights and
other electrical components. They are
essential parts of your car's operation
because they transport power to key points
in your vehicle. Without good working
battery cables, your vehicle cannot be
operated.

10.BATTERY TERMINAL
Battery terminals are the electrical contacts
used to connect a load or charger to a single
cell or multiple-cell battery. These terminals
have a wide variety of designs, sizes, and
features that are often not well
documented.

11.CHARGE INDICATOR
A battery indicator (also known as a battery
gauge) is a device which gives information
about a battery. This will usually be a visual
indication of the battery's state of charge.

2 TYPES OF CHARGING

1.The AC charge
They're called alternating current (AC) and
direct current (DC) power. The power that
comes from the grid is always AC. However,
batteries, like the one in your EV, can only
store power as DC. That's why most
electronic devices have a converter built
into the plug.

2. The DC charge
The difference between AC charging and DC
charging is the location where the AC power
gets converted; inside or outside the car.
Unlike AC chargers, a DC charger has the
converter inside the charger itself. That
means it can feed power directly to the
car's battery and doesn't need the onboard
charger to convert it.
