Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics (Grade 11)

Competency: Illustrates an experiment, outcome, sample space and event.

I. Objective: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. recognize probability
b. demonstrate attentiveness and actively participate in doing learning activities
c. solve problems involving probability.

II. Subject Matter

Big Idea: Statistics and Probability
Essential Question
How can you apply the concept of probability in real-life situations?
Topic: Probability
Instructional Devices : Chalkboard, Visual aids , powerpoint presentation

III. Lesson Proper:

a. Routinary Activities
Prayer
Greeting
Checking of Attendance
Motivation ( Brain Workout)

b. Development of the Lesson

The teacher will give directions. You should listen very well so that you will be able to
understand and explain the concept of probability. You need to jot down key concepts in your
notebook.
Motivate the learners by asking question “How do we get the probability of a statistical experiment?”
let the learners analyze and solve the given problem.
“If two coins are tossed, what is the probability that they will both turn up heads?”

c. Fixing Skills
Solve each problem. Show your complete solutions.
1. A coin is tossed twice. What is the probability of getting two heads? Atleast 1 head ?
atmost 1 head?
2. What is the probability when you throw a pair of dice, the top face will have a sum of 5?7?
3. If a card is drawn from an ordinary deck, find the probability that it is a heart? Face card?

d. Applications:
Choose a partner and solve each problem.
1. What is the probability when you throw a pair of dice, the top face will have a sum of 8?11?
2. A coin is tossed thrice. What is the probability of getting two heads? Atleast 2 heads ?
atmost 1 head?
3. If a card is drawn from an ordinary deck, find the probability that it is a spade? red card?

e. Generalization:
1. What are the important rules to remember in getting the probability of a statistical experiment?
2. How can you apply the concept of probability in real-life problems?
IV. Evaluation:
Solve the following problems:
1. In a fruit basket , there are 12 bananas, 5 green mangoes, 6 rambutans, and 4 pineapples.If a fruit is
drawn at random from the basket , find the probability of drawing the following:
a) A rambutan
b) A banana
c) A green mangoes
d) A pineapple
e) An orange

2. .A card is drawn at random from a standard deck. Find the probability of drawing the following:
a) Jack
b) Spade
c) Black queen
d) Red face
e) Black king

3. Each letter of the word “BAYANIHAN” is written on a card and these cards are placed in a box. If a card
is randomly picked from the box, find the probability of picking each of the following:
a) The letter N
b) Vowels
c) Consonants

4. A marble collector puts 14 yellow, 12 blue, 15 green, and 20 pink marbles inside a jar.If a marble is
randomly drawn from the jar, find the probability of drawing each of the following:
a) A blue marble
b) A pink marble
c) A yellow marble
d) A marble that is either pink or green
e) A black marble

5. If a pair of dice are thrown, what is the probability that the sum of the numbers is 12? 11?

6. A coin is tossed 4 times. What is the probability of getting two heads? Atleast 2 heads ?
atmost 1 head?

V. Assignment:
Solve each of the problem.
1. In tossing 2 fair coins, what is the probability that both coins will turns up tails?
2. If a pair of dice are thrown, what is the probability that the sum of the numbers is 7?
3. In drawing card randomly from a standard deck, what is the probability that the card is a face card?
4. The letters of the alphabet are written on a set of cards which are then placed in a box. If a card is
drawn, what is the probability that the letter is a vowel?
5. In a class of 40 students , 6 are left-handed. If a student is selected at random, what is the probability
that the student is right-handed?
