Seatwork #2

A. Describe the life of Jose Rizal as represented in the film – He was a man of action, helping
others with their daily tasks rather than just watching over them or telling them what to do.
Rizal was clever yet also incredibly modest.
B. What can you say about the film’s representation? I find it amazing that Rizal managed to
accomplish so much while living in exile and didn't object to being transported to Dapitan to
live like a prisoner. In the sense that he established a cooperative even while in exile, he has
taught the underprivileged people of Mindanao how to band together for trade in order to
become independent, liberate themselves from the Chinese, and become less exploited.
Jose Rizal remained to serve his country while many others would panic, despair, or
abandon hope for any achievement in their life as a result of being banished. This is what set
Jose Rizal apart from the others and made him a national hero. He truly embodied virtue.
C. What is the main question that the film seeks to answer? The primary point raised by the
Jose Rizal film is what made Dr. Jose Rizal the national hero of the Philippines.
D. What is your own reflection based? It is based on the idea of why did Dr. Jose Rizal is being
considered as a National Hero of the Philippines after getting killed by the hands of the
Spaniards. It is very controversial question that affects everyone’s point of view of a certain
thing. But up until this day, I’m still not convinced why did Jose Rizal became a National
Hero.
