Slope of A Line

This document provides information about slope of a line: 1) It defines slope as the change in y-coordinates divided by the change in x-coordinates between two points on a line. 2) It gives examples of using point-slope form to find the slope of a line through two given points and determining if lines are parallel or perpendicular based on their slopes. 3) It provides an example problem determining if three points lie on the same line by calculating the slope between each pair of points and seeing if the slopes are equal.

Slope of a Line

The slope of a line in the plane containing the x and y axes is

generally represented by the letter m and is defined as the
change in the y coordinate divided by the corresponding
change in the x coordinate, between two distinct points on
the line.
