Quadrilaterals

Objectives:
• define quadrilaterals;
• Determine the conditions that make a quadrilateral a parallelogram.
Quadrilaterals
is a polygon with four sides. It has four
angles. The sum of the measures of the
interior angles of a quadrilateral is 360°.
The symbol □ is often used to indicate a
quadrilateral.
Parallelogram
Objectives:
• identify quadrilaterals that are parallelograms;
• prove theorems regarding properties of parallelograms; and
• use properties to find measures of angles, sides, and other quantities
involving parallelograms.
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of
opposite sides that are parallel.

In parallelogram ABCD in

arrow marks indicate that they are
parallel.

The following are the properties of a
parallelogram:
1. Its opposite sides are congruent.
2. Its opposite angles are congruent.
3. Any two consecutive angles are supplementary.
4. Each diagonal forms two congruent triangles.
5. The diagonals bisect each other.
