COULD HAVE

Ability to do something in the past, but which wasn’t done in the end

CAN’T/COULDN’T HAVE

Certainly, that something didn’t happen

Pam can’t/couldn’t have performed at the concert. She was ill.

MAY/MIGHT BE ----> (NO ESTOY seguro de si es verdad)

A guess about a past action

He may/might be have lost the tickets.

MUST HAVE -----> (Creer algo con TOTAL seguridad)

Certainly, or logical conclusion about an event in the past

It must have been exciting for her to perform in front of thousands of people.

SHOULD/OUGHT HAVE TO HAVE (FORMAL) + (negative) -----> (Consejo)

Criticism or regret after an event

You should/ought to have taken a taxi to go to the concert.

WOULDN’T HAVE ----> (NO PUEDO, pero estoy DISPUESTO a hacerlo)

Willingness or desire to do something, but which wasn’t done

They would have held the concert outside, but it was raining.

NEEDEN’T HAVE ----> (No existe la obligación)


Absence of obligation
