CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a skill acquisition program
designed for the students of tertiary institutions as a complimentary program to the knowledge
gained through theoretical education, laboratory and workshop practice engaged in by students,
In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of Degree in Bachelor of Engineering to
students of the department of chemical engineering, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu
University Anambra State, practical experience are improvised for students to discover the
working environment, students of 400level in Universities are opportune to use this privilege
provided by the Federal Government through its parastatal (Industrial Trust Fund) ITF, for the
period of six(6) months.

The program also exposes the students to real life experiences situations, It prepares the students
for life after school since the whole process is far from the normal academic, laboratory and
workshop practices.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF SIWES

i. To create an avenue for student to apply learnt theories in solving problems encountered at
their places of attachment.

ii. To enable the student gain knowledge that is not obtainable in the classroom.

iii. To serve as an avenue for building relationships and connections that could help career wise
after their years of undergraduate study.

iv. To focus and re-focus students on how their fields of study can build up and develop various
fields of human endeavors.

SIWES

Participation in the Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) has become a
necessary pre-condition for the award of diploma and degree certificates in certain disciplines in
most institutions of higher learning in the country, in accordance with the educational policy of
the government. Listed below are some of the benefits of SIWES

It exposes students to the realities of the working environment even as they learn to imbibe the
ethics of the profession.
The scheme bridges the existing gap between theoretical and practical knowledge of discipline
related principle and aids in improving the overall knowledge base of participating students.

It makes the transition from school to the field of work easier for many intending engineering
technologists, scientists and engineers, as well as enhances their future excellence in their chosen
field as they get to relate with already practicing professionals in the field.

It enables students to improve their communication skills as well as soft skills and help them
develop inter-personal relationships at their field of work.

The scheme enables employers of

Labor assesses the practical experience and adaptability to skill acquisition of the students in the
field of work.

SIWES enables students to access the effectiveness of their academic curriculum and to make
modification where necessary.

In line with the objective of this program, I was privileged to undergo the industrial training with

Calebella Integritas Project Limited formerly known as Integrity Homes Consult, is a Building
construction company which started in the year 2013 under the chairmanship of Arc Oladipo

CHAPTER 2
GENERAL OFFICE EXPERIENCE

CAD DRAUGHTING
I was opportuned to learn Autodesk Revit and Lumion under the supervision of the company’s
senior Architect, Arc Kenny. The experience was so splendiferous, it took me a week and 2days
to develop myself on the use of revit. We started off with designing of four (4) Bedroom
Bungalow, the work didn’t turn out so nice, I was given an assignment to go home and develop
it, which I did and the work turned out nice. We moved on to the design of five (5) Bedroom
Duplex and so many others. I kept on practicing and developing myself. The experience was
breathtaking. I was motivated (as shown in figure 2.1).
On the other hand, learning Lumion Rendering software was another awesome experience on its own.
Lumion is one of the best CAD rendering softwares. Rendering with Lumion 11 was superferous. I learnt
to render using Lumion, Animation and Creating of 3D site layout. I really enjoyed the use of Lumion to

REQUIREMENTS OF A DRAWING APPROVAL

All drawings going in for Approval must be in black and white colour, with no shading (but can
be hatched). The following are sheets required for a proposed building drawing to be approved.

 Site plan; the site plan must have adequate setbacks between the existing road and the
proposed building. The landscape design must be up to the standard requirements of the
state’s building regulations, and site analysis must be carried out properly.
 Floor plan; the floor plan must be adequately dimensioned and spaces must be well
detailed and specified.
 Elevations
 Sections; the sections cut must be adequately specified, eg Rooms, roofing element, floor
level e.t.c. Details; all callouts should be well dimensioned and specified.
 Windows and Doors specification; doors and windows type in the design are to be
specified, i.e. the doors and window material type, size, function and dimensions.

Once the drawing is ready for approval, it is then taken to the Community or Estate Office (if
any), if approved is taken to the local government, which next goes to the state government for
Finally check.

OFFICE MEETINGS

Our office meeting holds every Mondays by 09:00am. My first meeting experience was on the
first day of my resumption which was on Tuesday 14th June, 2022 due to public holiday on
Monday 13th June, 2022. Five (5) Engineers were employed that same day. We were welcomed
to the company by the company’s M.D. and H.R. The company’s was read and introduction was
made by everyone in the company both old and new.

Second office experience was held on Monday, 20th June, 2022. The Engineers were
assigned to different sites. I was placed under the supervision of our senior Architect, Arc Kenny
Kholade. Percentage from a completed project was shared among the whole staff.

Many more meetings were held and different topics were discussed and opinions shared equally.
We had this weekly tradition whereby one of the will be given a topic a week before to teach the
other staffs the coming week during our usual Monday meetings. The lecture usually last for
15mins.

We also have a monthly Staff Bonding Hangout Exercise, whereby we choose and agree on a
place, then all staffs are mandated to make themselves available. Place we visited during my
industrial training, were, The GYM, Cinema for Movie Night, Kilimanjero, Shoprite, Swimming
e.t.c.
These experience were mind blowing and superferous as I got to meet greet people, new places,
and new people.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND LESSONS LEARNT

There wasn’t really much problems encountered. Few problems were;

 Systems issues
 Transportation cost

System issues; This experience was encountered due to low graphics card quality of my PC. I
was limited to the use of some software, like Lumion, 3ds Max, and other high rendering
software. This issues was later resolved when the company’s system was brought from repair.

Transportation Cost; Due to the far distance of the site, I found it difficult to carter for the daily
transportation to the site.
