It is composed of neurons and glial cells. Neurons have a cell body, dendrites, and an axon and can be sensory or motor. Glial cells support neurons and include astrocytes, ependymal cells, oligodendrocytes, and microglial cells. The nervous system is divided into the central nervous system, composed of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system contains neurons and glial cells organized into tissues protected by meninges and ventricles that circulate cerebrospinal fluid.
