NERVOUS

SYSTEM
SCIENCE 10
Presented by Group 3
WHAT IS THE
NERVOUS
SYSTEM?
The nervous system includes the brain,
spinal cord, and a complex network of
nerves.
This system sends messages back and
forth between the brain and the body.
The brain is what controls all the body's
functions.

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM :

BRAIN
Your brain is an essential organ
that controls many body
functions. It receives and
interprets all the sensory
information you encounter.

SPINAL CORD
WHAT IS THE
SPINAL CORD?
The spinal cord is a long, tube-like band of
tissue. It connects your brain to your lower
back. Your spinal cord carries nerve signals
from your brain to your body and vice versa.

NERVES
WHAT ARE
THE NERVES?
You have nerves throughout your entire body.
Nerves send electrical signals that help you feel
sensations and move your muscles. Nerves also
control body functions like digesting food and
maintaining your heart rate.

PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

Autonomic Nervous System

Somantic Nervous System
THE SOMATIC
NERVOUS SYSTEM
The somatic nervous system
consists of nerves that go to
the skin and muscles and is
involved in conscious
activities.
THE AUTONOMIC
NERVOUS SYSTEM
The autonomic nervous
system is a component of the
peripheral nervous system
that regulates involuntary
physiologic processes.
