Central Nervous System
The CNS serves as the main processing center for the
Entire Nervous System. It is consist of the Brain and the Spinal
Cord.
a. Brain- organ located within the skull
I. Cerebrum- Large, upper part of the brain that controls activity, emotion and
thought
II. Cerebellum- the part under the cerebrum that controls posture,
balance and coordination.
III. Brain Stem- the part that connects the brain to the spinal
cord. It controls breathing, digestion, heart rate and blood
pressure.
b. Spinal Cord- serves as a channel for signals between the brain
and the rest of the body. It controls simple musculoskeletal reflexes
without input from the brain.
Peripheral Nervous System
PNS is consist of Nerves (Cranial
Peripheral Nervous
System and Spinal Nerves) found outside
the CNS

Sensory Division vs. Motor Division
Sensory Division- is consists of sensory nerves
which carry information from the body’s
receptors (in our eyes, ears, nose, tongue and
skin) to the CNS.
Motor Division- is consist of motor nerves
which carry information from the CNS to the
body’s receptors.
Motor Division: Somatic Nervous System
vs. Autonomic Nervous System.
Somatic Nervous System- or also known as Voluntary Nervous System
- is a system associated with VOLUNTARY movements
in our body.
- it controls the skeletal muscle
Autonomic Nervous System- or also known as Involuntary Nervous System
- is a system associated with INVOLUNTARY
movements in our body.
- it controls the smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and
Glands
Autonomic Nervous System: Sympathetic
Division vs. Parasympathetic Division
